The Next Big Thing in the Big Apple?
It’s no secret that the Giants need a quarterback like the Kardashians need attention…
Nevin Shapiro, a disgraced Miami Hurricanes booster, made NCAAF news after guaranteeing that the New York Giants quarterback of the future will be The U’s Cam Ward.
Take It to the Bank
A name anyone associated with the Miami Hurricanes football program would soon rather forget, Nevin Shapiro, recently appeared on the Adam ‘Pac-Man’ Jones Podcast. Shapiro said he had “reliable” sources that the Hurricanes’ Heisman Trophy candidate, Cam Ward, was a lock to go to the New York Giants.

“I’m being told through reliable sources—Cam Ward is going to the New York Giants—guaranteed—and the University of Miami’s offensive coordinator, Shannon Dawson, is going with him,” Shapiro said.
When pressed about his sources, Shapiro said, “Holler at me on April 25th or 26th, whenever the draft is.”
This is the same guy who ran a $930 million Ponzi scheme and used investor money to lavish Miami football players with everything from hookahs to hookers. His house of cards came tumbling down when he stopped making interest payments to his investors in 2009.
A federal investigation followed shortly thereafter that led Shapiro to plead guilty to securities fraud and money laundering, landing him a 20-year reservation at the Gray Bar Motel.
After serving more than 50% of his sentence, he was transferred out of the clink and is now doing the rest of his bit in home confinement. Now wouldn’t that make most of us want to shut the hell up and fly under the radar? Well, we’re not Nevin Shapiro, and he’s fronting like he’s got major connections at The U who are telling him that Ward to the Giants is as sure a thing as that 20% monthly return on investment he promised his clients.
Look, Nevin Shapiro is radioactive to anyone even remotely associated with Miami. After his scheme was discovered, the football program got into a big old mess that saw scholarships taken away by the NCAA, along with recruiting restrictions and a three-year probation.
Don’t know how reliable Nevin Shapiro’s sources are, but he was a well-known ex-Miami booster who’s given gifts to certain football players during his time there.

Booster’s Bold Prediction
NFL rumors are all over this connection, and no one’s telling this guy anything. It’s no secret that the Giants need a quarterback like the Kardashians need attention, and it’s a pretty good bet they will be drafting at or very near the top, as they currently sport a league-worst (along with the Raiders) 2-11 record. This isn’t rocket science, and you don’t need “reliable” sources to connect the Giants to Ward.
In short, Nevin Shapiro would take a hot stove and come back for the smoke. You can make a sound bet that the Giants will draft Ward in April, but don’t think for a minute that Shapiro has a secret backdoor contact that guarantees this is a lock.
There’s plenty of time between now and April, but the Giants have to keep losing if they want that top pick, which is something they are eminently capable of. If they do, it’s likely Cam Ward will be wearing a Giants uniform next season.
Ward’s Got the Goods
If you’ve been watching NCAAF games this season, then you’ve no doubt heard and have probably seen Miami’s Cam Ward. He’s a great rags-to-riches story in that he had only one scholarship offer coming out of high school and made the most of it at the University of the Incarnate Word, where he won the Jerry Rice Award for Most Outstanding Freshman in the FCS.
He then transferred to Washington State and ultimately explored his final season of eligibility at the University of Miami. It was a wise decision because his stock has soared this year after leading the Hurricanes back into the spotlight with a 10-2 record and positioning himself as perhaps the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.
Cam Ward’s stats don’t lie. He threw for 4,123 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, and completed 67.4% of his passes. Oh, he also had a passer rating of 171.1 and four rushing touchdowns for good measure. In anyone’s NFL picks today, he would be at the head of the 2025 NFL draft class.
