Not Everything Is About Fancy Cars and Expensive Clothes

I can’t describe how thankful I am for everything that they do for me… – Quinn Ewers

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers made college football news recently when he revealed he is paying his mother a salary from his NIL money in appreciation for all she and her parents have done for him.

Payback’s a Cinch

It’s refreshing to read a wholesome story every now and again. Yes, sex sells, and dirty laundry is the cash cow for media sites everywhere. However, there are good people out there doing good deeds, and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is one of them.

When asked at a press conference about his estimated $4.5 million NIL valuation, Ewers replied, “I get to pay my mom a salary, which is nice, just ’cause, you know, all the effort and work they put into me growing up. I mean, they both, when we were living in South Texas, they both quit their jobs and moved up to Southlake… Even when I give back, I can’t describe how thankful I am for everything that they do for me.”

Ewers began to make headlines as a star quarterback for Carroll Senior High School in Southlake, Texas. When his high school career was finished, Ewers was the No. 1 ranked player at his position, and college football programs were salivating at the opportunity to get him on campus and into a uniform.

Ultimately, he chose Ohio State and signed the first $1 million NIL deal as a college athlete. But his time at The Shoe was short-lived, and soon he returned to the Lone Star State to become a member of the Texas Longhorns football program.

Despite the immense shadow cast by redshirt freshman Arch Manning of the legendary Manning family, Ewers has maintained his role as the starter, and the Horns have thrived. Texas is currently in the CFP and slated to take on his former team, Ohio State, in the Cotton Bowl for a chance to advance to a national title tilt against either Notre Dame or Penn State.

When and Where Is the Cotton Bowl?

Get your college football picks ready as the No. 5 Texas Longhorns will battle the No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday, January 10th at 7:30 ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

The Buckeyes are currently 6-point favorites according to the oddsmakers at BetUS and the winner will advance to the CFP national championship game against either the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame or the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Texas defeated Clemson, 38-24, in the opening round of the recently expanded CFP tournament, which now includes the top 12 teams in the nation. Their quarterfinal matchup against No. 4 Arizona State proved to be a grueling battle in which the Horns escaped with a 38-20 double-overtime victory.

Ohio State began their CFP journey with a 42-17 dismantling of SEC powerhouse Tennessee before stunning the top team in the nation, the previously undefeated Oregon Ducks, in a 41-21 rout before their semifinal date with Texas on Friday night.
