Notre Dame Under Fire

Amateur hour… – Dan Wolken via X

The latest college football news has Notre Dame under fire for how the team handled the team’s loss to Ohio State in the CFP national title game. The criticism stems from a critical message on X from USA Today’s Dan Wolken, who labeled the scenes in the locker room “amateur hour.

“Bizarre scenes from the Notre Dame locker room, players yelling at reporters, coaches warning people not to ask certain questions,” Wolken said on X. “Amateur hour.”

It is worth noting this was not a consensus opinion. Other reporters clapped back at Wolken for calling out Notre Dame players minutes after one of the biggest college football games in recent memory.

College Football Reporter Takes Heat for Calling Out Notre Dame Players

I had a chance to speak with some of the Notre Dame players and coaches on media day ahead of the title game. My experiences were all good but obviously a different setting than after a team has spent hours in the biggest game of the year.

I’ve been in locker rooms interviewing players minutes after a major loss. Candidly, I would not have wanted to talk to me either at that moment. We’d be wise to consider the circumstances before slamming players.

“Lotta emotions tonight,” On3.com’s Jack Soble responded to Wolken’s note with a series of X messages. “Players were distraught. Plenty of them were more than willing to talk to us and those who wanted to did it with class. Let’s have some empathy and give these kids some grace.“

“As media, we have to have thicker skin than to complain about this stuff after these guys poured everything they had into a game like this.”

Notre Dame Is Here to Stay

College football rumors are a 24-hour business and players are held to a bit of a higher standard now that many are being paid through NIL deals.

Notre Dame’s football schedule includes marquee matchups against Texas A&M, USC, Miami, and Arkansas. The Irish’s independent status will keep Notre Dame in plenty of college football predictions for the top contenders in 2025.
