Would this happen if he had a different name on his back? – Joel Klatt
Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter played for two seasons in Colorado. Hunter won the Heisman Trophy in 2024 and is a rare two-way player in college football.
On Saturday, the school, which has its football team coached by Shedeur’s father, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, retired the numbers 2 and 12 to honor the QB and WR/DB.
There was backlash because the Buffaloes were 14-13 in the two seasons with Shedeur Sanders and Hunter. Deion Sanders said the only reason this is an issue is because the QB’s last name is Sanders.
He doesn’t get a pass on his son, the QB. Retiring Hunter’s 12 while prematurely was well-earned. He is unique and won the Heisman. The only other Buffalo to win the Heisman was the late Rashaan Salaam. He won the award in 1994 and had his jersey retired in 2017, after his death in 2016.

In NCAAF stats, Shadeur Sanders leads Colorado with 64 passing touchdowns in 27 NCAAF games as a Buffalo. He is fifth overall in passing yards. Joel Klatt, now a national analyst for FOX Sports, disagreed with the decision, which he said was made by school AD Rick George.
“Not a good look,” Klatt said on First Things First. “I don’t know of anybody anywhere that has been a more staunch supporter of what has gone on at Colorado, and still am, by the way… I just think that it cheapens what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to honor Shedeur Sanders, you’re trying to honor Travis Hunter… With Shedeur, it’s way too easy from the outside looking in to say, ‘Would this happen if he had a different name on his back?’”
The answer to that is no.

NFL Draft First Round Seeing No Movement
The NFL draft begins Thursday in Green Bay. However, it is already taking on a historic look. In NFL news, the league has seen no trades of the 32 first-round picks as of this writing. It is the closest to the selection process, and no deals have been made in the first round.
NFL rumors are buzzing around Cam Ward of Miami being the first overall selection by the Tennessee Titans. The AFC South team is desperate for a QB, and Ward is the player everyone has circled for this pick.

If one is looking at a player who will be under the spotlight microscope, it will be Shedeur Sanders of Colorado. He may have had his jersey retired, but there are all sorts of questions about where he will be chosen.
One nugget of interest: If the Saints take him with the ninth overall pick, he would be New Orleans’ first selection of a QB in the first round since Archie Manning way back in 1971.
It also looks like Deion Sanders will become the second player who was an NFL first-round pick to have been a head coach of first-round picks on the college level. The other? Don’t strain your brains because it is hard to believe, but Jim Harbaugh was a first-round pick of the Chicago Bears out of Michigan years ago and went on to coach first-rounders for the Wolverines.
Triple H Still Makes Everything About Himself
WWE had its Hall of Fame ceremony on its WrestleMania weekend in Las Vegas. There were numerous inductees, some deserving, others because of who they married (Michelle McCool).
Since Vince McMahon’s exit in disgrace, Triple H has become the face who runs the place. He spent an entire in-ring career wearing titles and making his character larger than life.
So, it should be no surprise that rather than being brief and humble, he wasted 67 minutes of attendees’ lives while delivering his Hall of Fame speech.
What was worse than having to listen to someone bloviate about themselves for more than an hour was the finish to the second night. Somehow, the WWE creative team thought it was a good idea to involve rapper Travis Scott. That led to John Cena using a weak–like it never appeared to connect–belt shot on Cody Rhodes before winning his 17th championship. It was a major letdown for the weekend.
