How the Rookie QB Handled Coach’s Criticism 🏈
Ferris is kind of quirky and doing his own thing once in a while… – Sean Payton
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton had a heated discussion with quarterback Bo Nix during one of the NFL games in Week Five. After the Broncos made NFL news by beating the Las Vegas Raiders, Payton referenced a Ferris Bueller movie moment.
One could forgive Nix for not following the trend of thought because he was born in 2000, 14 years after the movie became a cult hit.
I actually love this from Bo Nix. 🔥🔥🔥

Setting the Scene
Payton sent in a play. He’s a veteran coach who likely will wind up in the Hall of Fame. Nix is a first-round pick out of Oregon. That means he is a rookie, and as such, he shouldn’t be changing play calls decided by a man with a Super Bowl on his resume.

The Broncos coach made news with this comment:
“Ferris is kind of quirky and doing his own thing once in a while,” Payton said. “Did you watch the movie? Have you ever seen it? He still has some Ferris Bueller in him. He’s got some. Not mischievous, maybe a little bit kind of subtly.”
The QB Responds
It likely is a good idea for a rookie QB – albeit 24 years old – to not engage his coach any further.
Nix is either quite wise on social media or he has a good agent and PR team behind him because he produced the perfect call on Instagram in response.

There is zero reason to think any NFL rumors would ignite that Payton would want to replace Nix. The Broncos have won three in a row after losing their first two games. Bo Nix’s stats have him completing 61% of his passes for 866 yards, three touchdowns, and four picks.
Those numbers show there is still plenty of wisdom Nix needs to digest and absorb from a coach with 163 victories.
