This is just the beginning of Hamlin’s comeback
In the latest NFL news, the league announced on Monday that Bills’ safety Damar Hamlin is the winner of the George Halas Award –– an award given to a player, coach, or staff member who overcomes the most adversity of anyone in the league in order to succeed.

Hamlin’s 2022-23 NFL season chapter is unlike any other after he went into cardiac arrest during the Bills vs. Bengals game in Week 17. The entire stadium fell completely silent and the game was canceled as he was resuscitated on the field and transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Flash forward to today, and Hamlin has been regularly practicing this NFL offseason and has been cleared to play this upcoming season, which is exactly what he intends to do.
“This was a life-changing event, but it’s not the end of my story,” Hamlin said on April 18, via ESPN. “I plan on making a comeback to the NFL.”

Other recipients include Washington Commanders coach Ron Rivera, who won the award in 2022 after fighting cancer without missing a game, and Washington QB Alex Smith, who received the award following his miraculous comeback from his gruesome leg injury all while shutting down NFL rumors about him never playing again.

Other 2023 finalists for the award were San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr., and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith.
