Allen Tops Poll: Trash Talk or Reality?

Burrow is Carson Palmer with great PR and without a horrible knee injury on his first playoff completion.

More proof that we need the real 2024 NFL games to start, an NFL news poll from ESPN has concluded that Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the most overrated player at his position.

Allen Overrated, Hurts & Tagovailoa Close Behind

It’s one thing for the media to reach this conclusion, but this was a poll voted on by 103 players. NFL rumors also cite Allen as the biggest trash-talker in the league, which probably doesn’t endear him to his rivals either.

Jalen Hurts (Eagles) and Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins) reportedly received 10 votes each to rank behind the 11 votes Allen had to lead all quarterbacks for most overrated.

Are they onto something?

How Many Turnovers Did Josh Allen Have This Year?

It would seem turnovers are the biggest talking point against Allen, who has only won one divisional round game in his career, and that was against the 2020 Ravens when his offense scored 10 points.

Too many turnovers” was the exact quote from an NFC West player who voted Allen the most overrated.

The problem is too many players will look at NFL scores, look at season stats, and never dig deeper into the context. Granted, Josh Allen’s stats for 2023 show a career-high 18 interceptions and 7 fumbles. His numerous turnovers were costly in losses to the Jets and Broncos.

However, the Bills did not have a single turnover in two playoff games, which they also did in the 2021 postseason. In the 2022 playoff loss to the Bengals, the only turnover was an Allen interception in garbage time with the game long decided.

The players also voted Allen as the No. 4 best quarterback (39 points), trailing the No. 3 quarterback (51 points) who deserves the most overrated title.

Joe Burrow Is the Most Overrated NFL QB

Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow deserves the title of most overrated, and it’s incredible how having a slew of nicknames (plus “vibes and aura”) and coming close to a Super Bowl win have inflated his value. A recent poll from coaches and insiders also ranked Burrow as the No. 2 best quarterback behind only Patrick Mahomes.

How is Burrow overrated? Oh, let me count the ways:

  • He’s a sack merchant who has landed on injured reserve in 2-of-4 seasons.
  • He’s never won the AFC North without Lamar Jackson getting injured in December while Baltimore led the division.
  • Joe Cool? His defense has more 4th-quarter touchdowns (1) in the playoffs than he does (0).
  • Joe Brrr? He’s won one NFL game after trailing in the final 8:00 (2022 Saints).
  • He’s relied on a clutch turnover in 4-of-5 playoff wins in his career.
  • He lost the Super Bowl 23-20 after he couldn’t get the offense into field goal range.
  • He lost an AFC Championship Game 23-20 after he couldn’t get the offense into field goal range.
  • Joey Franchise? Jake Browning had better numbers than Burrow in 2023.

Burrow is Carson Palmer with great PR and without a horrible knee injury on his first playoff completion.

If Allen had Burrow’s kicker and defense that actually showed up against the Chiefs, we would never be having this conversation.

Only 11 votes out of 103 is a small plurality for Allen as most overrated. But let’s see how long this Burrow lovefest lasts as he lives off that 2021 run.
