I want the respect for him that he deserves. – Kelly Stafford
Does anyone else feel like that Luka Doncic trade has every athlete on edge this week? In NFL news, Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp is reportedly up for trade next, and that has upset Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly, who is now thinking about his own trade out of LA.
“I want the respect for him that he deserves. I love the city of L.A. With that being said … I love an adventure,” she said, sparking NFL rumors about where Stafford might want to play next.
Uh oh: Kelly Stafford is NOT happy the Rams are trading away Cooper Kupp and insinuates that she’s okay with them trading Matthew next:

Stafford also noted that the team was one play away from the NFC Championship Game, which is technically close enough to the truth. The Rams were 13 yards away from the end zone of their 28-22 loss in Philadelphia before a big sack changed everything.
I think Stafford has a minor point here, but there are also very valid business reasons to make a Cooper Kupp trade in 2025.
Kupp Isn’t the Same Player
In 2021, the Rams acquired Stafford, and it was an instantly incredible connection with Kupp, who won the triple crown as a receiver, won Super Bowl MVP, and he had arguably the best season in NFL history by a wide receiver. He was so dominant and consistent that year.
However, injuries have always been an issue for Kupp, who then missed half of the 2022 season. He missed half of the 2018 season as well as a quarter of NFL games in the 2023 season. These injuries combined with the fact that he’s about to turn 32 years old this summer make him a viable candidate for trade to a desperate team.
There’s also the fact that Kupp’s production has slumped, and Puka Nacua has emerged as Stafford’s best and new favorite receiver. The Rams will be fine if they make this move as Kupp is past his prime and not going to warrant another huge payday from them.
So, I think she’s off-base that this is a move that’s so disrespectful to Stafford. The Rams got the best years out of Kupp, and they will try to recover some value from him in a trade. This happens often in the NFL, though I do see the side that it would be nice for him to finish his career with the Rams like how Hines Ward (Steelers) and Larry Fitzgerald (Cardinals) only played for one team.
If Kupp was a durable Ironman, it would make less sense. Alas, that’s not the case.

Stafford Should Be Back
Kelly Stafford may not be happy, but she has a bit of a history of that as fans have pointed out.

Dad, how would you feel about the Stafford’s if Kelly didn’t have a podcast? https://t.co/EISh5xskkD pic.twitter.com/PoVJiO00X5

Trade Stafford and Kupp to cincy for burrow. That way we don’t gotta hear Kelly Stafford anymore.

As for Matthew Stafford, he turns 37 today (Friday), so we are at that point where every offseason is a retirement watch as he’s had a long list of injuries in his career. But Matthew Stafford’s career stats are solid and he played well enough in 2024 that the Rams should want him back.
But time is definitely limited, and the Los Angeles Rams’ roster doesn’t have a replacement plan for him. That’s why I wouldn’t expect him to get traded this year, but I guess all bets are off after Luka Doncic’s trade happened.
