Lay Off The Kool-Aid! Enhancing The Game Or Making a Fool Of Themselves?

These Mid-Players Can’t Reach Super Star Level Even With the Juice

It didn’t work as he was benched by the team during the season…

Oof, it’s one thing to be Barry Bonds or Jon Jones and get caught using PEDs but to be a pretty average athlete and get caught using them is rough. Look, the incentive for a mid-level athlete to seek a competitive edge is probably high but it’s not worth it in the long run.

We’re going to go through some of the non-star players to get caught using the juice.

5. Jimmy Garoppolo

The most recent example of a meh athlete getting caught using PEDs is Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He just made NFL news as he was suspended for two games in the 2024 season for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. It didn’t work as he was benched by the team during the season.

This is good Raiders news as the team now isn’t on the hook for his guaranteed base salary next season. NFL rumors have suggested Las Vegas is going to go after a quarterback so I don’t think they’ll be too sad.

4. Deandre Ayton

Athletes don’t get as mid as DeAndre Ayton even though he was the No. 1 pick. However, you may have forgotten that he got busted for PEDs back in 2019, which led to a 25-game suspension. Ayton isn’t much worse since he got busted so they may not have done much to help his game but clearly, the NBA thought it was a big enough deal to give him a big suspension.

3. Tristan Thompson

Speaking of mid-big men, Tristan Thompson got in hot water recently for getting a 25-game suspension from the NBA for failing a PED test. Khloe Kardashian’s beau is cheating in life and the basketball court. At this point, the man is a walking red flag but I ain’t going to feel too bad for any of those Kardashians.

2. Mohamed Katir

Another recent example of a lesser-known athlete getting caught using PEDs was Mohamed Katir of Spain. The track star is banned by the Athletics Integrity Unit for the next two years and we probably won’t be seeing him in the Olympics. It’s interesting as we don’t think about runners when we think of PEDs but I’d imagine Katir isn’t the only one juicing.

1. J.C. Mejia

We can’t talk about PEDs in sports without mentioning baseball. One of the more notable suspensions for PEDs in the MLB recently was Milwaukee Brewers right-hander J.C. Mejia, who is banned for 162 games. Mejia isn’t exactly Roger Clemens so he wasn’t getting that much of an advantage but I’d be surprised if we see him on the mound again.
