 Lions Dominate Cowboys

This beef could be a nice little subplot in any potential Dallas-Detroit rematch…

The Detroit Lions went into Dallas over the weekend and made NFL news by dismantling the Cowboys with a final score of 47-9 to improve to 4-1. It was the worst home loss in owner Jerry Jones’ career, and it happened on his 82nd birthday.

Without question, the Lions had this one circled after a controversial ending in Dallas last season in a game they lost 20-19 after an illegal formation penalty negated their 2-point conversion play that should have won the game.

You could see Detroit’s goal of embarrassing Dallas with the whacky trick plays they were trying with eligible offensive linemen as they destroyed the Cowboys in Sunday’s game.

But there is apparently a legitimate feud underway between Detroit’s star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown and veteran Dallas cornerback Jourdan Lewis. After St. Brown took to Instagram to post a celebration story of the victory, Lewis left a private reply with “You a b*tch” to St. Brown:

St. Brown took a screenshot of Lewis’ message and posted it on another story, making the beef public for all to see. Lewis did not appreciate that as he tweeted about it.

But like Sunday’s game, this beef didn’t start with a 47-9 blowout by Detroit. This goes back to last year’s game again.

The Origin of the Beef

A few months back, St. Brown appeared on The Pivot Podcast and said that Lewis was talking crazy stuff to him during last season’s Lions-Cowboys game in Dallas.

“I’m trying to make plays, win the game, I’m not worried about him. But once he starts talking like that, if I do get a chance to kill him, I’m a kill him,” St. Brown added on the podcast.

Well, St. Brown did not have a huge game on Sunday. The Amon-Ra St. Brown stats for Sunday included 4 targets, and 4 receptions for 37 yards, and his touchdown was the final score of the game in the fourth quarter when the Lions already led 40-9.

But there is no denying the Lions killed Dallas badly in one of the most lopsided games of the 2024 season. It dropped the Dallas Cowboys’ record to 3-3 as they look a full tier below where the Lions are right now. The Detroit Lions’ stats are off the charts offensively these last two games, and they lead the NFL in scoring at 30.2 points per game.

Rivalry Heats Up

You have to wonder if these little feuds don’t happen often from heated NFL games between competitors. Beef between a wide receiver and cornerback feels like the most logical of them all given the nature of those positions. Mike Evans (Buccaneers) and Marshon Lattimore (Saints) have gotten into it many times over the years, including some nasty incidents on the field as they meet twice a year in the NFC South.

But you can’t rule out St. Brown and Lewis seeing each other again this season. Neither team currently leads their division due to the surprise starts by the Commanders (4-2) and Vikings (5-0). The Lions look like a way better team than Dallas now, but they just lost star defender Aidan Hutchinson to a broken tibia. Micah Parsons should be back soon for Dallas.

This beef could be a nice little subplot in any potential Dallas-Detroit rematch.
