Carr’s Sinking Ship 😪
Yikes. At 2-7, Carr could be losing the locker room in a hurry.
A hot start has led to a hot mess for the New Orleans Saints, who have now lost seven NFL games in a row. Shortly after wide receiver Chris Olave left the game after a scary hit leading to a concussion, former Saints wideout Michael Thomas used X/Twitter to absolutely rip into Derek Carr, who threw the dangerous pass.
First, the pass from Carr that led to Olave’s second concussion this season and the fourth of his career according to NFL rumors:
This is exactly what Tom Brady was referencing when he talked about good Quarterbacks not putting their receivers in dangerous situations.
Derek Carr just sent Chris Olave to the hospital.

Thomas, a free agent who played with Carr on the 2023 Saints, did not hold back with his criticisms of the quarterback in a variety of tweets (some have since been deleted):
Dude scary and panic and just throw the ball. Get him the f out of here he so ass.

While Thomas unloaded, Carr struggled on the field as the lowly Panthers came back to win the game, 23-22, dropping the Saints to 2-7. The result made Carr the first quarterback in NFL history to lose starts to 31 different franchises.
Carr was asked after the loss about Thomas’ tweets, and he called Thomas “the one dude who didn’t get along with me” before saying he doesn’t know why the receiver feels this much ire for him.

But is Thomas justified here? He’s not the only one taking issue with Carr these days.
Chris Olave’s Brother Josh Echoes the Carr-Bashing
The good NFL news is Chris Olave is alert and doing well after this latest concussion. His concussion earlier this season against the Buccaneers was a pass thrown by rookie Spencer Rattler, but Carr does have a history of making throws extra dangerous for his receivers. In fact, in this very same game, tight end Juwan Johnson was forced to get checked for a concussion after this pass play that was an even worse throw:

Olave’s brother Josh backed up what Thomas said by tweeting this support of the tweet that said Carr “needs his ass whooped.”

Josh Olave also replied to someone about whether playing football is still worth it for Chris with the remark “Ain’t worth it in Nola, I’ll tell you that.”

Big Changes?
Yikes. At 2-7, Carr could be losing the locker room in a hurry. He was brought in to lift the team up in close games like Sundays, yet the Saints are the only NFL team not to have a fourth-quarter comeback win since the start of the 2023 season.
Carr still has two years left on his contract, and his cap number will be north of $51 million in 2025. The Saints are showing $61 million in the red when it comes to their cap space for 2025 at the moment according to Over the Cap.
Big changes could be coming, and don’t be surprised if coach Dennis Allen gets the axe for this seven-game losing streak after they couldn’t even beat the Panthers. But Carr is the player making the big bucks, and right now he’s sending his teammates to the blue tent more than the end zone.
Most losses as starting QB thru:
4 seasons: David Carr 43
5 seasons: David Carr 53
6 seasons: David Carr 56
7 seasons: Derek Carr 63
8 seasons: Derek Carr 70
9 seasons: Derek Carr 79
10 seasons: Derek Carr 87
11 seasons: Derek Carr and Archie Manning 91— Josh Dubow (@JoshDubowAP) November 3, 2024
I think Thomas is a truth speaker more than a hater in this case. If Carr is still the starter when the Saints play the Raiders in Week 17, he can become the first quarterback to lose to all 32 teams, which might be most fitting for his legacy.
