New York Jets and Robert Saleh Part Ways After 2-3 Start

After a Highly Disappointing Start to the Season, the Jets Have Decided to Fire Head Coach Robert Saleh

Out of Time ⌛

Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan.

In breaking NFL news, New York head coach Robert Saleh was fired just two days after the Jets game in London saw them drop a 23-17 decision to the Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

So Long Saleh

Well, that didn’t take long. After only five NFL games, the Jets’ front office decided to can their head coach, Robert Saleh. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe that it was Saleh who completed just 29-of-54 passes for 244 yards and tossed three interceptions, including a pick-six, in a 23-17 loss to the undefeated Minnesota Vikings.

Nevertheless, someone has to be the scapegoat, and you know they can’t let Aaron Rodgers go, the middle-aged savior of this moribund franchise. So, Saleh lasted four years into his five-year deal and was issued an early release from the asylum known as MetLife Stadium with a guaranteed paycheck for this year and next.

Personally, I think Saleh is infinitely better off now than he was 24 hours ago, and I wouldn’t doubt it if he privately agreed. After all, it wasn’t only the team’s underwhelming 2-3 start that got him sent packing but also the alleged tension with his star QB Rodgers. I can’t imagine anyone not seeing eye-to-eye with Aaron.

Just because Rodgers missed two days of minicamp in June for the trip of a lifetime to Egypt, leaving Saleh having to eat sh*t and smile in front of the media shouldn’t be any cause for concern. After all, when was he ever going to be able to find the time to go to Cairo to explore Egyptian culture or gaze awestruck at the Great Pyramids in Giza?

I’d venture to say after this year or next when he has the rest of his life to do anything he wants. But, on the other hand, he has so much F-you money that he figured that he might as well do it now because, why not?

What’s Next for the Jets?

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will serve as the interim coach, but unless he gets this team that had Super Bowl expectations to the playoffs, you can bet the NFL rumors will begin to swirl as to who will be roaming the sidelines as the newest Jets head coach next season.

If we take a look at the Jets’ schedule, we see them welcoming a divisional rival in the Buffalo Bills led by a very pissed-off Josh Allen on Monday night. Buffalo dropped a 23-20 decision to the Texans last week, and they will be looking for some Grade A ass to kick, and there’s no bigger ass in the league than the J-E-T-S… Jets!

Look, is Saleh to blame for the Jets’ less-than-stellar start? Of course, the pendulum always swings both ways. Head coaches are lauded for their teams’ triumphs and denigrated for their defeats. Success has many fathers, but failure is an orphan. Yet someone had to take the fall, and because you can’t fire the entire team, it’s always easier to axe the man sitting in the big chair.

We shall see what happens next, but I have my doubts about Rodgers, and I had them well before this. A soon-to-be 41-year-old coming off a season-ending Achilles injury that caused him to miss an entire season with a brand-new cast of characters had to be a red flag for all but the most rabid Gang Green fans.

My prediction for the 2024 New York Jets is 7-10. Wait ‘til next year, kids.
