Undeniable Legend 🏈
He’s got a certain charisma about him and players seem to love his vibe…
Looks like all that NFL news about Mike Tomlin being on the hot seat wasn’t true. The Pittsburgh Steelers have given the coach a three-year contract extension which will keep him in town for the foreseeable future, per NFL Network’s Tom Peliessero.

Tomlin hasn’t had much playoff success in recent years but he’s a Super Bowl champion and has never had a losing record in NFL games as a head coach. Tomlin is easily one of the best coaches in the NFL while also being one of the most iconic.

Tomlin has had iconic press conferences, hilarious memes, and triumphant moments. We’re going to go through some of his best moments as the head coach of the Steelers.
The Iconic Memes
We can’t talk about Tomlin’s best moments without talking about the memes. He’s been the catalyst behind some of the most common memes people use on Twitter. One of my personal favorites is his “we do not care” moment.
This is pretty much used by every team’s fan base when they’re subject to media criticism.

The origin of the meme came from Tomlin being asked about the Steelers playing 13 straight games without a bye week on the NFL schedule back in 2020. Tomlin’s simple message was the perfect response and Steelers fans use it daily.
However, that’s not my favorite Tomlin meme. Ironically, the best Tomlin meme comes from his lack of a contract extension during last season. After a loss, Tomlin was asked about his contract situation and he immediately just walked out of the press conference without saying a word.

It’s the perfect “I’m gonna head out” meme. He doesn’t get mad, he doesn’t chastise the reporter, he just walks away. It’s so freaking funny. Something about him wearing the hoody and the beanie makes it even funnier. Never change, Mike.
Aaron Rodgers Moment
One thing that makes Tomlin so special is how cool he is. He’s got a certain charisma about him and players seem to love his vibe. One of his best moments as a coach came when the Steelers played the Aaron Rodgers-led Packers.
Cameras caught Rodgers and Tomlin smiling at each other.

Many thought this meant that Rodgers was hoping to join the Steelers eventually but there was more to it. Rodgers was trying to get the Steelers called for a 12-men on-the-field penalty but Tomlin called a timeout before the quarterback could snap the ball.
It was just two longtime football guys respecting each other’s game but it was still a great moment nonetheless.
Super Bowl Win
For any coach, the pinnacle of their career is winning a Super Bowl. While there aren’t any great memes that came from Tomlin’s Super Bowl, it’s safe to say that he would name it as his crowning achievement.
Mike Tomlin is now under contract through 2027.
During his 17-year tenure:
Regular season:
173-100-2 (.633)
7 Division titles
17 straight non-losing seasonsPlayoffs:
8-10 (.444)
2 Super Bowl appearances (2008, 2010)
1 Super Bowl win (2008)
0 playoff wins since 2016 https://t.co/6Hib9mKzWT— Sharp Football Analysis (@SharpFBAnalysis) June 10, 2024
In just his second season as a head coach, Tomlin beat the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl. Sadly, he has not been able to reach the same heights. He got back to the Super Bowl two years later but lost to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The team has only reached the AFC Championship one more time since.
Regardless, most head coaches never win a Super Bowl. Tomlin just needs to get the quarterback right. It’s unlikely that Russell Wilson is the guy to get them over the hump but he’ll be better than whoever the Steelers had taking snaps last season. Even without as much playoff success in recent years, Tomlin is an elite head coach and one of the best personalities in the NFL.
