So, Are the Chiefs Moving?

Voters in Kansas City Said F*ck No to a Sales Tax That Would Fund the New Chiefs’ Stadium

Why Aren’t Billionaires Funding Their Own Stadiums?

Our market loves football more than enough to support a second NFL team. – Eric Johnson, Dallas Mayor

You’d think winning three Super Bowls in five seasons would be enough for an NFL team to get whatever they want. Well, that’s not the case for the KC Chiefs. The team wants to build a new stadium in Kansas City and there was a proposed sales tax increase that would help fund it.

The problem is that residents voted it down and it wasn’t even close. Now it looks like all options are on the table for the Chiefs, including a possible move. The team has given a lot to the city but the city has also given a lot to the Chiefs.

According to Forbes, the Hunt Family, who owns the Chiefs, is worth a whopping $24.8 billion so something tells me they can afford their own damn stadium. I really hate the idea of normal citizens having to pay for billionaires to build stadiums. It’s something that really needs to stop and I’m glad the people of Kansas City aren’t giving in.

Clark Hunt was voted the worst owner in the NFL by his own players so he’s clearly a cheapskate. I hope Kansas City forces his hand.

What the Hell Are the Chiefs Going to Do?

The Chiefs are synonymous with Kansas City but that’s not actually where they originated. The team used to be the Dallas Texans in 1960. They started in Dallas the same year as the Cowboys did. With the NFL news that the Chiefs might not be getting the stadium they want, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson floated the idea of the Chiefs coming home.

“As I have said previously, our market is big enough, growing enough, and loves football more than enough to support a second NFL team — especially a franchise (and an owner) with deep roots here,” said Johnson

That’s pretty hilarious considering the Cowboys are the NFL’s biggest brand but their own mayor would rather see another team come to the city. It goes to show you how down bad the Cowboys are right now. You love to see it.

But no, there’s no way the Chiefs are going to Dallas. If they were going to leave Kansas City, Missouri, I could see them moving down the street to Kansas City, Kansas. Apparently, that would really piss people off but that seems stupid. I don’t know, I’m from Los Angeles and we don’t care about crap like that.

As much as I hate the Chiefs, it would be sad to see Arrowhead Stadium torn down. It’s the oldest stadium in the AFC and doesn’t feel as corporate as many new stadiums. If the Chiefs left, the KC Royals would be the last major team left in the city.

I’m still not buying that the Chiefs are going to jump ship. The Kansas City fans are about as ravenous about football as you can be and they won’t find that somewhere else.
