Rushed Decision? 🤔
This isn’t exactly the Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett quarterback room…
Man, NFL owners really love to overthink things. Despite being widely regarded as one of the best young coaches in the NFL, the Tennessee Titans have decided to fire Mike Vrabel after the team went 6-11 and finished near the bottom of the NFL standings.
“As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions,” Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement.
“Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan. As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff.”
Mike Vrabel was named the NFL’s Coach of the Year in February of 2022.
He’s out of Tennessee in January of 2024.

There have been NFL rumors about Vrabel possibly forcing his way out and finding a new job but it looks like the Titans wanted to get ahead of the NFL news. Look, I know the Titans have had a couple of rough seasons but are we just going to ignore the quarterback issues the team has had?
Ryan Tannehill can’t stay healthy, Malik Willis can barely throw a football in a one-mile radius of a wide receiver and Will Levis puts mayonnaise in his coffee. This isn’t exactly the Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jacoby Brissett quarterback room.
The only way this makes sense is if Vrabel hinted to ownership that he may want out but according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, that never happened and Titans ownership didn’t want to deal with the complexity of a trade.
Just spoke to Derrick Henry over the phone, “Wow. Wow. I’m shocked. Coach Vrabel is a leader of men. He is a great coach and teacher. I know he will get another opportunity right away. I look forward to it.”

Possibly getting a first-round pick for a coach you don’t even want? Fuck that! God, these NFL owners are so dumb sometimes. I understand wanting a change but who out there is going to take this job who is better than Vrabel? If I’m Jim Harbaugh or Bill Belichick, I don’t go anywhere near the Titans.
The Titans SHOULD NOT have fired Mike Vrabel. But you know that already. 6 seasons, 4 playoff appearances, AFC Championship game appearance and Coach of the Year. Whoever gets him is getting one of the best leaders of men in the NFL today.

Regardless, Vrabel should land on his feet quickly. He’s a former NFL Coach of the Year and a respected former player. There should be teams lining up to interview him. Even if he doesn’t find a head coaching job he likes, he should easily find a defensive coordinator job in the meantime.
