The Truth Comes to Light

I wasn’t going to sign another contract…I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it. – Tom Brady

The New England Patriots’ dynasty of the 2000s is starting to feel like a distant memory with the Kansas City Chiefs becoming the latest dynasty. However, we’ll be reminded of the Patriots’ excellence soon as Apple TV’s 10-episode docuseries called The Dynasty: New England Patriots is coming out this week.

While we still haven’t been able to see the series quite yet, there are some really key details being released.

“Me and coach Belichick, we did what we loved and competed for 20 years together,” Tom Brady said in the series, per The Athletic. “But I wasn’t going to sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until (I was) 50. Based on how things had gone, I wasn’t going to sign up for more of it.”

That’s pretty major NFL news as Brady has never directly revealed why he decided to ditch the Patriots. In so many words, he essentially says that he was fed up with Bill Belichick. Who wouldn’t be after 20 years? The dude seems like a total downer.

It turned out to be the smart move as Brady went on to win a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Honestly, the last few years have been terrible for Belichick’s legacy. Belichick’s record without Brady is 82-98.

It’s clear that they were the Tom Brady Patriots and not the Bill Belichick Patriots. And now, the quarterback is coming out and saying that he left because of the coach. Nobody can take away Belichick’s six rings as a head coach but man, this is just a brutal offseason for the coach, who nobody wanted to hire after the Patriots moved on.

Early signs are pointing to The Dynasty possibly being more interesting than we expected. The Patriots were always notoriously tight-lipped during their dynasty but perhaps they’ll be willing to open up now that many of the major players are no longer with the franchise.

These docu series can be hit or miss. A lot of them are just puff pieces for legendary teams. If we can get beneath the surface and actually get some insight into some of the drama, then it would be worthwhile to watch.
