Those Pfizer Ads Prepared Him for This Day

I’m comedy all the way. I like to have a run time and make people laugh. – Travis Kelce

Is anyone actually surprised this is happening? Between the 70s mustache he occasionally rocks and Trav’s love of the spotlight, hosting a TV show might be his second calling.

When reports came out last month that the KC Chiefs tight end was in talks with Amazon Prime Video about hosting Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity? we were all curious about what this meant for his NFL career. Now that they just announced it’s “coming soon,” we’re even more curious about his plans.

Given Travis’ personality and natural charisma, it seems like an excellent choice for him. Not to mention his insanely popular New Heights podcast and iconic appearances hosting SNL. In addition to that, he’s already accustomed to the massive media you get from being a common subject of entertainment news. I say he’s got this in the bag.

As I mentioned, I don’t think anyone is surprised by his transition to television. We were all kind of tipped off that he’d be having a pivot into the entertainment industry when he told the Wall Street Journal, “I’m comedy all the way. I don’t know if I’m anything else. I like to have a run time and make people laugh. I’ll dabble into everything just to see if I have fun doing it.”

Is Trav Trading in the Cleats for a Hollywood Career?

The only real unknown here is what this means for his NFL career. Considering the record-breaking Travis Kelce stats we saw last season, it would be kind of surprising not to see him on the field next season. And last we heard from him, he dispelled any NFL rumors about retiring.

He said in a press conference just a couple of months ago, “I have no reason to stop playing football, man. I love it. We still have success.” Kelce continued, “like I said, I have no desire to stop anytime soon.”

However, he wouldn’t be the first pro football player to transition from touchdowns to scripts. NFL stars like Jim Brown, Alex Karras, and Merlin Olsen have all found success in acting after their football careers ended.

Perhaps Travis is also taking inspiration from his older brother Jason Kelce, who seems to be enjoying life to the fullest after retiring. Jason is truly living his best life, and it’s possible that Travis is yearning for that same sense of liberation.

No matter what is to come, one thing is certain: I will be glued to my television, eagerly watching Travis Kelce making other celebrities feel stupid and it will be a joyous occasion.
