[It was] a little too close for my comfort with my family being in the house. – Tua
We normally read about Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa making NFL news on the field, but a recent rash of burglaries targeting the homes of NFL players hit home when his car was burglarized while his family was inside his house.
Fighting Back
Every Sunday for five glorious months, we sit down, crack open a cold one, and sit in front of the TV watching a full slate of NFL games. But we rarely ponder the athletes’ lives off the field of battle and the difficulties they face in their daily routines. That topic has become a public discussion as one vital member of the Miami Dolphins’ roster, Tua Tagovailoa, explained when speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
🎥 Amidst the recent security concerns around NFL players’ houses, Tua Tagovailoa reveals he has hired personal security
“Just let that be known, they are armed… I hope if you decide to go to my house, you think twice.” (@MiamiDolphins) #GoFins pic.twitter.com/v3wpWfAETH

Tagovailoa said: “[It was] a little too close for my comfort with my family being in the house. So, we got personal security to take care of all of that. When we’re on the road, we’ve got someone with my wife, got someone also at the house, surveying the house.”
NFL rumors abound regarding athletes’ personal security and the lengths they will go to protect themselves, their families, and loved ones. It’s important to note that in this case, Tua Tagovailoa’s stats have been so impressive that the team offered him a four-year, $214 million contract in July, which guarantees him $167 million and pays the 26-year-old $53.1 million per year.
Naturally, he took the money, and the deal has paid off for both sides, as the Dolphins are a remarkably different team when he’s under center and not recovering from one of his many concussions.
Get a Crew
Now, if I had that kind of dough, I wouldn’t be waiting for trouble. I’d have several heavily armed former special ops dudes following me around like I’m an open bar at an AA meeting. Those badasses would be my newest best buddies, and when they’re not looking all Seal Team 6 and Delta Force, they’d regale me with stories of their military missions and taking out bad actors looking for a fight.
Can you imagine some crackhead trying to break into a car for spare change or daring to enter a house ready to loot, and they’re standing eyeball to eyeball with GI freakin’ Joe, who’s just begging for an opportunity to play Captain America?
And it’s not like Tua’s the only one being targeted. While Bengal’s quarterback Joe Burrow was dealing the Cowboys a 27-20 loss on Monday Night Football, some scum-sucking bastards broke into his crib while he was in Dallas making a living.

The talented tandem of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce has also been victimized, and I have no doubt there are countless other NFL players, and pro athletes in general, who have been plagued by break-ins and crime because they’re public figures who have all the shiny toys that thieves desire.

My advice to the pro athletes of the world is to skip buying that fifth exotic car and protect yourselves and your family. Ring cameras might do the trick for the average dude, but when you’re in the spotlight, make sure you shine a light on the scumbags who intend to do you harm.
