Another Action-Packed Weekend!
Aidan was the heartbeat of our team. – David Montgomery
The Detroit Lions did everything right in one of Week Six’s biggest NFL games. They pummeled the Dallas Cowboys, 47-9, at AT&T Stadium to ruin Jerry Jones’ 82nd birthday.
However, the Lions did not escape the 38-point win without a major loss. In NFL news, the Lions’ best defensive player, Aidan Hutchinson, was carted off the field in the second half with a severe leg injury.
David Montgomery said after the game: “Aidan was the heartbeat of our team.”
The reason for that is he is a local guy from Plymouth, Michigan, played football at the University of Michigan, and has dazzled since being drafted by Detroit. Aidan Hutchinson’s stats saw him with 21 sacks in his first two seasons. He came into Sunday with a league-leading 6.5 sacks.
The Lions of Motown are clicking on all cylinders. How they respond will be intriguing. Tom Brady loves them.

On the other side, NFL rumors are sure to percolate after the way the Cowboys lost their fourth straight home game. Mike McCarthy’s team goes into its bye week with a 3-3 record and all sorts of questions and no answers.
NBC’s Jason Garrett, an expert on Cowboys teams that failed to deliver, offered commentary on the 2024 version.
Jason Garrett on the Cowboys:
“They’re not physical on either side of the ball. On offense, they can’t run it, they’re not controlling the line of scrimmage. Everything is on Dak, every time the ball is snapped. And they can’t stop the run on the other side.” #NFL pic.twitter.com/rpXLyTs1nf

Jim Harbaugh’s ‘Illness’ Was Heart-Related
Talk about scary. Imagine getting ready to coach any sports game and your heart goes out of whack.
Jim Harbaugh of the Chargers had to go into the blue medical tent at the start of Sunday’s win over the Denver Broncos. There was all sorts of wild speculation about what had gone awry.
The coach explained the situation post-game: He suffered atrial flutter, a type of arrhythmia that causes the upper chambers of the heart to beat 250 to 350 times per minute.

Cleveland Rocks … When It Comes to Baseball
Let’s focus on the positive in Cleveland and forge the Browns. The Guardians gained the ALCS, which starts Monday in New York, with a Game Five win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
The big swing was Lane Thomas’ grand slam that broke the game open. There was a sweet story to the home run ball. Matt Coleman caught the ball with a glove borrowed from his son. He gave it to Patrick Steyer, his second cousin, whose leukemia is in remission…
Rather than focusing on important baseball being put up for auction, this is the kind of story that made baseball the beloved sport it was for generations.
WNBA Finals Squared at a Game Apiece
Going against the NFL is difficult for any – and every sport. It will be interesting to see how the WNBA Finals game on Sunday does in the TV ratings. The true fans were either at the game or watching on TV as the New York Liberty evened the series with the Minnesota Lynx.

The series moves to Minnesota for games on Wednesday and Friday. If a Game Five is necessary, it would be in Brooklyn on Sunday.
That possible game could go head-to-head with Game Six of the NLCS and a Jets-Steelers game on Sunday Night Football.
There was also WNBA news on the eve of the Finals with the league announcing next year’s regular season will be 44 games and the Finals will expand to best-of-seven.
Bizarre Scene on NBA TV
Former NBA coach Sam Mitchell got into it with his co-host on NBA TV. Mitchell didn’t like the way the other person referenced what he was earning for his work and went off.

Fascinating NASCAR News
Okay, you have to be a fan to appreciate this but there was some stunning NASCAR standings news after the Charlotte Roval race.
It appeared as if Joey Logan would be one of the drivers eliminated from the Chase for the Championship.
However, Alex Bowman’s 48 car was found to be too light and was disqualified. That elevated Logano back into the eighth and final playoff spot.

Logano tweeted about his disappointment before the Bowman news.
Fought hard today, but just wasn’t enough to advance us on to the Round of 8. Started P4 / P2 in Stage 1 / P3 in Stage 3 and crossed the finish line 8th. @Team_Penske @shellracingus @Pennzoil @FordPerformance @CocaColaRacing #CokePartner pic.twitter.com/kBKCQIYKk8
