What Would It Take for Deion Sanders to Coach in the NFL?

Coach Prime Revealed What It Would Take for Him to Make the Jump to the NFL

Deion Sanders’ Conditions

Maybe Deion is the voice of change that a major NFL franchise will look to.

We are in that new NFL coaching cycle with interviews happening left and right during the playoffs. But one name you can forget about for now is Colorado coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders coaching in the NFL in 2025.

Sanders has been hearing the NFL rumors all season, and the college football news is always reporting that he is committed to staying with the Colorado Buffaloes where he is content after two successful seasons of turning around a bad program.

But Coach Prime did let it slip on TV that the only way he’d consider coaching in the NFL is if a team would allow him to coach his sons. He emphasized the plural, meaning they’d have to accept quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback Shilo Sanders as a package deal with Deion.

Shilo Is a Stretch

Several NFL teams are going to be interested in Shedeur, a top-ranked CFB prospect for the 2025 NFL draft. But adding Shilo to that deal is a major stretch.

If you think Giannis Antetokounmpo having his brother Thanasis on the Milwaukee Bucks roster is an abuse of nepotism, or that Bronny James has no business being in the NBA because of his dad, then you’ll have an even tougher time with taking Shilo seriously.

That’d be just a step up from Patrick Mahomes finding a roster spot for Jackson Mahomes in Kansas City. No one with college football betting picks is mocking Shilo to any team in the draft.

But Shedeur will definitely get a look from the Tennessee Titans, who hold the No. 1 pick and need to move on from Will Levis. The Browns (No. 2) are another option that would be entertaining to see Deion joining the AFC North. The Giants (No. 3) also need a quarterback, but that might not be a great fit for the Sanders family.

Vegas would be wild with Tom Brady coming on as an owner, but that’s such a tough division to win with three playoff teams this year, not to mention a dynasty like the Chiefs.

Two Spicy NFL Spots to Consider for Deion

Let’s consider why Deion could leave Colorado for the NFL in the near future. Don’t forget he coached his sons and a Heisman winner like Travis Hunter at Jackson State before they followed him to Colorado in 2023. He has a special bond with those players, who graduated, and recruiting new classes may not be as fun for Coach Prime.

That’s why he might decide to leave Colorado after a year or two, and maybe he could join one of those teams we mentioned that could draft Shedeur like the Titans or Raiders.

But what if the Cowboys get tired of Mike McCarthy and are disappointed with Dak Prescott, and Jerry Jones calls up his old corner to make a huge move in Dallas? That’s a potential landing spot.

Even wilder, what if the Pittsburgh Steelers bomb badly in another playoff loss, part ways with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, and make a huge trade to draft Shedeur and eventually replace Mike Tomlin with Deion?

It sounds crazy, but so does getting blown out in the playoffs every year. Maybe Deion is the voice of change that a major NFL franchise will look to.

Just (probably) not in 2025.
