Messi’s First Full Season 🙌

Having a collection of stars does not guarantee success…

The MLS has taken full advantage of Messi’s American arrival by making him the face of the league. This doesn’t seem like a hard decision given Messi is, by far, the biggest star in the MLS.

Messi has gotten plenty of stars to join him in his move to South Beach. Former Barca teammate Luis Suarez is now also rocking the bright pink Miami kit.

Let’s dive into this opening MLS match and what to expect from Inter Miami in Messi’s first full MLS season.

Julian Gressel and Luis Suarez Join Messi in Miami

The latest MLS odds per BetUS have Inter Miami as a 1-goal favorite against Real Salt Lake. What did Miami do this offseason to build around Messi?

It did not garner as much attention but Miami landing midfielder Julian Gressel is a major addition. Gressel brings championship experience fresh off Columbus’ MLS Cup last season. The former Rookie of the Year also won a title with Atlanta United in 2018.

It was not all good news for Inter Miami CF as striker Josef Martinez bolted to Montreal. The soccer transfer rumors are sure to swirl throughout the season as more international stars are sure to want to team up with Messi in America. My question is how can Miami afford to pay all these players?

Real Salt Lake’s biggest offseason move was the addition of midfielder Matt Crooks, formerly of the English squad Middlesbrough.

The Inter Miami CF MLS Cup Odds Are Crazy

Not to pee in anyone’s cereal here, but it is hard for me to imagine this Inter Miami season not being a disappointment. The Vegas odds for Miami to win the MLS Cup are insane at +162.

Miami is an overwhelming favorite with odds that are similar to a moneyline pick in a normal soccer match. Messi’s move to the United States has been a smashing success.

Yet, the rest of the MLS is not just going to hand Messi the trophy because Apple has unending documentaries coming out about the star. Ask PSG how having a collection of stars does not guarantee success.

Miami does not just have a plethora of stars, but these are individuals who are in the final chapters of their careers. To be clear, we are not wishing injuries on anyone, but older players do find themselves at a greater risk of missing time.

Messi’s presence means the most anticipated MLS schedule ever, but don’t be surprised if Miami is not at the top of the MLS standings at season’s end.
