A Saudi Soccer Adventure Begins!

Deal sealed, Neymar joins Saudi league…

The latest soccer transfer rumors mean it is time for you to dust off that Al Hilal jersey from your closet now that Neymar is moving from PSG to the Saudi club. What is an Al Hilal, you might be asking?

I must thank Neymar’s former teammate Kylian Mbappe for my extensive (extensively brief) knowledge of Al Hilal. It is a Saudi Arabian soccer club team that appears to have more money than it is able to spend.

You may remember Al Hilal as the infamous club that offered Mbappe a massive $776 million new deal only to be turned down. I hope someday I have the courage (and opportunity) to turn down $776 million but back to the future.

Neymar’s 2-Year Deal With Al Hilal is DONE

According to soccer insider Fabrizio Romano, Neymar’s two-year deal with Al Hilal has been completed and the star already passed the necessary physical.

“Neymar Jr to Al Hilal, deal now signed! All documents are completed — and medical tests were also successfully passed earlier today,” Romano tweeted on August 14. “Told Neymar is expected to travel to Saudi later this week, not on Tuesday per current plan.

“Deal sealed, Ney joins Saudi league.”

Neymar Is Getting to Use a Private Jet

All this begs the obvious question: is Neymar getting Mbappe’s $776 million leftovers? Neymar is a star in his own right but doesn’t have quite the same juice as Mbappe. The Brazilian striker is definitely the opening act of Mbappe’s headline band.

According to The Athletic’s Ali Rampling, Neymar is a $102 million transfer move. Neymar will land $326 million, use of a private jet, mansion, and incentives for every social media post from Al Hilal, per Front Office Sports.

The move, according to Neymar, is about writing a “new sporting history.”

Funny, I thought it was about money, but I am not here to get into another man’s bag. Things get a bit gross when tracing the money of any global sports league.

“I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment,” Neymar said of the move, per The Athletic. “I have heard a lot and learned that I am following a long list of Brazilian players who have played in Saudi Arabia over the years, so I believe it is the desired place.”

Wait, did Phil Mickelson just add Neymar on Insta?
