This Is What Leadership Looks Like!
I love my teammates so much that I will take any hit for them. – A’ja Wilson
One thing about A’ja Wilson is that she plays WNBA games with her whole heart.
After the Las Vegas Aces lost to the New York Liberty on Saturday, the star player made WNBA news headlines for becoming visibly emotional during her postgame conference, shedding tears as she spoke.

Despite a strong effort from A’ja Wilson and the LV Aces, they ultimately lost 90–82 to the NY Liberty at Michelob Ultra Arena on Saturday. However, Wilson’s post-game statement is what’s making the rounds in WNBA rumors for being just the motivation her team needs to move forward. As a two-time WNBA MVP, her words hold weight and could inspire her teammates to push harder in their next game.
“It’s hard. I love my teammates so much,” Wilson said with tears in her eyes after the game. “Y’all say I’m the best player in the world. That’s great. But I want to be the best person. I want to be the best teammate because that’s how I get the best out of my team.”

She added, “I put myself out there on the front because I don’t want my teammates—I’m about to cry because I love them so much. It’s hard. It’s really, really hard. I love my teammates so much that I will take any hit for them—good, bad, ugly. I’m going to go out there and I’m going to try to be my best.
“So when it comes to wins and losses … I break this game down piece by piece because I want to be great for my team … great for this franchise. It is hard as sh*t. Great teams in this league that are going to try to come after you every single night. But when it comes to taking accountability, I have no problem in that. Because I want to be great.”
Good morning to A’ja Wilson!

Best. In. The. World.
It may be “hard as sh*t,” but Wilson has made it look easy during the course of her career. At only 27 years old, Wilson already has an Olympic gold medal, two World Cup golds, two WNBA titles, two WNBA MVP awards, two WNBA Defensive Player of the Year awards, and the coveted title of 2023 WNBA Finals MVP. You don’t achieve that without some blood, sweat, and tears.
After the defeat, the Aces’ record dropped to 6-6, marking their slowest start in the first 12 games since moving to Las Vegas in 2018—the same year that Wilson joined the team. In 2023, they only lost six games throughout the entire season and went on to win their second consecutive WNBA title.

However, there is still a significant portion of the season remaining. On Wednesday, Wilson will have another opportunity to turn things around as the Aces face off against the Seattle Storm, who currently hold a record of 9-4. With an average of 28.6 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, Wilson is sure to make her mark on the court once again.
