Third Time’s the Charm ✨
I LOVE being a black woman in sports. – Angel Reese
Some people win one BET Award and coast. Angel Reese wins three and shows up in vintage Baby Phat, unfazed. The Chicago Sky forward just secured Sportswoman of the Year at the BET Awards 2025, making her the first woman since Serena Williams to three-peat the honor.
Say what you want—about WNBA rumors, the Sky’s rough 2–5 start to the season, or that “humble yourself” comment from earlier this year—but you cannot deny the Angel Reese stats. Rookie year? She broke the single-season rebounding record (446). She tied for the most consecutive double-doubles (9). Then casually led Rose BC to a 3×3 Unrivaled championship and logged the first-ever 20-20 game in the league.

And while the online discourse is predictably salty. We see y’all in the comments comparing her to Simone Biles and Coco Gauff, but this isn’t a participation trophy. It’s recognition of an entire era. An era that involves 4.6 million Instagram followers (most in the league), a philanthropic foundation (Angel C. Reese Foundation), and a fashion portfolio that could land her front row at Loewe and take over your FYP.
Third Consecutive BET Award!
The WNBA star took to Instagram today to celebrate the honor, writing to her IG story: “3X IN A ROW,” she wrote alongside a praying hands emoji. “I LOVE being a black woman in sports.”
The BET Awards are about Black excellence. Swagger, game, impact. Not just stats. Angel embodies it in WNBA games and outside of them. I mean, hell, the girl has graced the cover of Vogue.

Also: shoutout to Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who took home Sportsman of the Year for a second time. He also snagged the award in 2023! Last year, the honor went to NBA star Jalen Brunson.
Anyway, I remember watching Angel at LSU and thinking: “This girl is gonna make the league cool again.” And here we are. With her name among BET Awards winners, and her legacy unfolding right before our eyes, lash extensions, rebounds, block lists, and all. The hater will keep hating, and Angel will keep winning.
