Aubrey Just Balls Too Hard 🥵
In the middle of the game, I went up for a shot and tore my ACL on the court in a wig… -A.Plaza
Although Aubrey Plaza is most recognized for her role in “Parks and Rec,” many may be surprised to learn the WNBA rumors are true: she is deeply invested in the sport of basketball.

Plaza, 40, suffered an ACL injury while participating in a game of “knockout” at the Phoenix Mercury practice facility. On Saturday’s broadcast of the WNBA All-Star game on ABC, she was seen using crutches and wearing a large ice wrap on her right knee.

A Short Basketball Career
Sports commentator Ryan Ruocco announced that Plaza had torn her ACL during the skills event and before the actual game. Unfortunately, this was not the first time Plaza had experienced this type of injury from playing basketball.
During an episode of A Touch More, Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird’s podcast, Plaza shared about her experience tearing her ACL during a women’s rec league game in Los Angeles.

“And then, in the middle of the game, I went up for a shot and tore my ACL on the court in a wig. That’s kind of like the worst-case scenario because I was trying to go undercover, and I just snapped my knee in half, basically.”
For those who may not know, Aubrey Plaza and a few of her friends formed an amateur pick-up basketball team called “The Pistol Shrimps” in 2016. However, due to the notoriety of the players and the location of their games, this informal basketball endeavor resulted in a podcast, a documentary, and other projects. This isn’t surprising considering how much success Aubrey Plaza movies and TV shows tend to get.
It’s all about that psychological basketball 🏀

A True WNBA Fan
And just last month Plaza was at a LA Sparks game where she flipped off the crowd. The gesture was meant to be lighthearted, but Plaza probably wasn’t happy with the WNBA scores for the night: a 67-61 win for the Lynx.

At the game, she gave an interview with reporter Nikki Kay, showcasing her signature enthusiasm (or lack thereof). “I started coming last year,” Plaza told Kay. “My sister had season tickets and so I started coming with her. It’s awesome.”
Plaza added, “I just love watching the players. It’s inspiring, they’re so good. I just love watching them.”
We hope she heals up quickly and is back to flipping people off alongside Caitlin Clark at WNBA games soon!
