When Petty Meets Perfect 😏
It was the kind of subtle jab that brought Aces fans to their knees…
WNBA news hit differently yesterday when the 2025 WNBA schedule dropped, and the social media teams delivered a masterclass in creativity. While most announcements brought the fun, the Golden State Valkyries played it safe as the new kids on the block (understandable). But a few teams went all out, and their efforts deserve a standing ovation—or at least a slow clap.
Here are my top three favorites. No ranking—just vibes.
The Las Vegas Aces: Hugs and Shade
The Las Vegas Aces nailed their schedule reveal with a nod to the Key & Peele “Obama Meet & Greet” skit. You know the one—some people get a stiff handshake, others get hugs like they’re family. The Aces nailed it: warm hugs for their favorites and a frosty dodge for the Liberty.
It was the kind of subtle jab that brought Aces fans to their knees: a masterclass in trolling—just enough to get a laugh without going overboard. The Aces’ social media team understood the beauty of saying a lot without actually saying much at all.

The Minnesota Lynx: Petty in the Best Way
If revenge is a dish best served cold, the Minnesota Lynx served it with a Spotify Wrapped theme. The video was already clever, but when they got to the New York Liberty’s section, things got messy. The song suggestions? Robbery by Juice WRLD and Stolen by Chris Brown and Young Thug. Subtle? Not even a little.
And let’s not forget the petty touch for the Indiana Fever: a mock Taylor Swift album cover featuring Caitlin Clark getting blocked by Bridget Carleton. “Not our cup of tea,” the Lynx said. Translation? “You’re welcome for the reality check.”

The Phoenix Mercury: Awkward Family Photo Realness
Cozy, funny, and a little cringe in the best way, the Phoenix Mercury’s announcement gave department-store-photo-shoot vibes. Matching black turtlenecks, cheesy poses—the whole thing felt like a chaotic holiday card from that one cousin who overshares. It was peak awkward humor, and honestly, we need more of this energy in WNBA games marketing.
When we say we’re a family around here, we mean the kind of family that goes to that department store to take pictures for the holiday card. You know the ones.
With that being said, the 2025 schedule is here! pic.twitter.com/fFS4n1zvyM

Honorable Mentions
Shoutout to the Dallas Wings for pulling Keith Lee into their announcement, proving yet again that TikTok has the range. And if we’re talking broader WNBA games hype, it’s clear the league is leaning into its stars—Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese remain the faces of a generation, whether fans love it or roll their eyes.

So there it is. Whether you’re here for the memes, the shade, or the chaotic creativity, the 2025 schedule announcements gave us plenty to dissect. Let’s hope the Golden State Valkyries learn to embrace the drama next year.
