Will the Atlanta Braves Win 100 Games In 2021?

Braves' Season-Win Total Betting Breakdown

In 2020, the Braves were so close to a World Series berth that they could taste it. Atlanta was just one game away from making its first Fall Classic appearance since 1999. The Braves had the lead twice on the Dodgers in Game 7 of the NLCS, but couldn’t hold them off.

Instead, L.A. CF Cody Bellanger hit what would become a game-winning solo home run in the seventh, ending Atlanta’s season. It was Corey Seager who won MVP for both the NLCS and next in the World Series. Had the Braves pulled off the Game 7 victory, it may have been Freddie Freeman basking in postseason glory.

Freeman hit .360 in the NL Championship Series, with two homers, six RBIs, and six runs scored in 25 ABs. Currently both Freeman (+1800) and Ronald Acuña Jr. (+1200) are in the discussion regarding 2021 NL MVP odds for Atlanta. How do the 2021 Braves stack up against the other elite teams in MLB? Will Atlanta win 100 games this year?

Freeman is certainly excited about the upcoming season, as evidenced by his press conference following the Braves Game 7 loss. As frustrated as he was at the moment, Freeman remained defiantly optimistic about Atlanta’s future, in the short and long-term.

Braves the “Beast of the East”

The NL East is truly stacked this season, with no pushovers in the division. The Braves and Mets are projected to vie for first place, but the Nationals, Phillies, and Marlins are tough too. Washington was recently spraying champagne after its 2019 World Series victory, Philadelphia has hope, and Miami has nothing to lose.

All that said, Atlanta is still expected to earn the top spot, rocking the NL East division odds at +125. The Mets made a big splash trading for Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco, but the Braves still have the edge. Our sportsbook shows that Atlanta (+500) only trails L.A. (+160) and San Diego (+400), with regards to NL Pennant odds.

If Braves’ ace Mike Soroka hadn’t torn his ACL, it’s quite possible that Atlanta would have faced Tampa last year. Soroka should be back on the mound for the Braves by late April or early May, and that makes a huge difference. Atlanta retained all of its important roster pieces in the offseason, while adding veteran SPs Charlie Morton and Drew Smyly. This jilted Braves squad did everything right in evolving their situation.

2018 NL Rookie of the Year Ronald Acuña Jr. is primed for a monster season, and Freddie Freeman is hungry. Marcell Ozuna hit .338 in his first campaign with Atlanta, and led the league in HRs (18) and RBIs (56). Top prospect Cristian Pache is the favorite to start in centerfield on Opening Day, and has tremendous upside.

The Braves’ farm system is fairly formidable, and could play a major role in Atlanta’s ultimate outcome this season. Alex Jackson and William Contreras are battling for the backup catcher spot, and second-year pitcher Ian Anderson is for real. Braves’ fans have good reason to be excited, and are anticipating an end to their 25-year World Series victory drought.
