Mikolas’ Magic vs. Glasnow’s Power: Who Wins the Cardinals-Dodgers Pitching Battle?

Led by the newly acquired baseball phenom Shohei Ohtani, and a roster that screams talent overload all around, LA will take on the always difficult and gritty Cardinals led by future Hall of Famers Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, ready to launch moonshots and give the Dodgers hell on Opening Day.

With the other off-season acquisition right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow will make his Dodger debut on MLB Opening Day, it will be fellow righty Miles Mikolas who will take the mound for the Cards in the hopes of spoiling LA’s first home game of the season.

So who’s leaving Dodger Park with the dub?

To Bet Or Not To Bet On Mikolas?

Hate to break it to you, folks, but our old pal Miles didn’t exactly set the world on fire last season. Despite rocking those iconic Cardinals’ birds on the bat, the big righty looked more like a plucked pigeon at times in 2023.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Mikolas has been a pretty solid arm for St. Louis since making his stateside comeback in 2018 after a stint overseas in Korea. Miles has put up respectable numbers overall, including a 3.78 ERA and tight 1.16 WHIP across 833 innings in the bigs. He’s even earned a couple All-Star nods over the last couple years for eclipsing 200 innings pitched.

But here’s the rub – for all that seemingly robust volume, Mikolas just doesn’t bring the kind of bat-missing stuff that can get MLB betting fans hot and bothered.

That lack of swing-and-miss was a huge part of why Mikolas limped to a disappointing 9-13 record and 4.78 ERA. Sure, the volume was there, but when you’re constantly putting balls in play, things can go sideways in a hurry.

Is Glasnow A Good Bet For Dodgers’ Fans On Opening Day?

The Dodgers are set to have an absolute flamethrower taking the mound against St. Louis on opening day with Glasnow. The real question all Dodgers betting fans should be wondering is, which version of the ace will they be getting? Will it be the brilliant, strike tossing machine from his best days with Tampa? Or will he get a – brilliant one day, riding the pine the next due to the injury bug. But when he’s on? Sheesh, it’s like he’s throwing straight gazebos at the plate!

The 6’8″ monster put together a career year in 2023, tossing 120 innings of fire for the Rays. That’s no joke for a guy who had never even sniffed triple digits in the bigs before. But here’s the catch – Glasnow comes with as many twists and turns as a soap opera script.

On a good day, he’s making million-dollar talent look like they’re swinging pool noodles. The next? Command goes out the window and he’s duck hunting in the hitting zones. Tack on those new pesky base running rules exploiting his delivery, plus some obligatory IL stints, and you’ve got yourself a wild ride.

But that’s why the big-bucks Dodgers went all-in on this guy! When he’s healthy and locked in, Glasnow has that certified ace stuff. Untouchable down the plate, a devastating hook, the whole nine. LA is banking on more brilliance and less time on the trainer’s table in 2024.

Still, if you want a little friendly wagering advice, don’t hold your breath if you’re betting the farm on him from the get-go. Prior to last year, Glasnow was averaging barely over 60 innings per season! He may have raised the bar, but staying healthy for a whole crusade is still a big ask for this fireballer. Adjust your expectations accordingly, but get ready for some jaw-dropping displays when he’s rolling!

Will the big-budget Dodgers flex their star power and make an early statement? Or will the Cards continue playing their underdog role to perfection with another signature statement win? There’s only one way to find out!

So, no matter which way you’re leaning, one thing’s for sure – this Opening Day battle is gonna be an absolute slugfest. So make sure you’ve got your bets locked in and a comfy spot to sit back and watch the action unfold once the “Play Ball” call is said.
