The race is on to see which of the National League teams will be the first to clinch a division title. The Milwaukee Brewers lead the NL Central Division by 8½ games, the Philadelphia Phillies are up by seven games in the NL East and the Los Angeles Dodgers are holding a cushion of 5½ games in the NL West.

The Dodgers and Phillies are tied for the best record in the National League with 18 games left to play. The MLB odds have the Dodgers at -10000 and the Phillies at -15000 to win their respective division titles.

The New York Mets have made MLB news by going 9-1 over the last 10 games to move ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the race for the final playoff spot. The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins have been eliminated from playoff contention.

When looking at MLB futures odds, the Dodgers lead the way with +325 odds of winning the World Series followed by the Phillies at +500.

National League Power Rankings: Top 5

1. Los Angeles Dodgers (+165 to win the National League)

The Los Angeles Dodgers haven’t lost a series since the Phillies won the series finale on Aug. 7. Since then, the Dodgers are 20-9, even after losing the series opener to the Cubs on Monday.

Shohei Ohtani is now four home runs and three stolen bases shy of becoming the first MLB player with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season.

The pitching staff continues to deal with injuries. Trade deadline acquisitions Jack Flaherty (5-1, 2.61 ERA in seven starts) and Michael Kopech (3-0, 0.53 ERA in 17 relief appearances) have made a huge impact.

Eight of the final 18 games for the Dodgers come against either the Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins, the two worst teams in the National League.

The Dodgers are tied for the lead among National League teams by covering against the MLB run line in 37 home games.

2. Philadelphia Phillies (+250)

The Phillies won seven of their last 10 games and still saw the Mets shave two games off their lead in the NL East.

Kyle Schwarber is hitting .400 with six home runs and 12 RBIs over his last eight games while Bryce Harper is batting .379 during that stretch as the veterans are starting to get ready for a playoff run.

Speaking of veterans, Zack Wheeler has allowed six hits and one run with 14 strikeouts in 13 innings in his last two starts.

The Philadelphia Phillies have won six of their last seven one-run games after a walk-off RBI single by Kody Clemens in a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.

The Phillies lead the majors with a 46-21 record when listed by the MLB spread as the home favorite.

3. Milwaukee Brewers (+850)

It isn’t looking promising for the Milwaukee Brewers to catch either the Dodgers or the Phillies in the standings, but the Brewers are getting closer to winning the NL Central for the third time in the last four years.

The only remaining NL Central games for the Brewers come against the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Brewers are batting only .169 as a team over the last seven games. Joey Ortiz is hitting .318 with one of Milwaukee’s 10 home runs during that stretch, but Willy Adames, William Contreras, Rhys Hoskins, Blake Perkins, Sal Frelick, Gaby Sanchez and Garrett Mitchell all have batting averages under .200 during that stretch.

4. San Diego Padres (+750)

The San Diego Padres just lost a series to the rival San Francisco Giants and will be playing the Giants again this weekend. The final six games of the season come against the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks, so things might get interesting for the Padres.

San Diego currently holds down the top wild-card spot, but Atlanta is just 2½ games back as the Padres, Diamondbacks, Mets and Braves fight it out for three playoff spots.

In the last 70 years, Tony Gwynn, Rod Carew, Wade Boggs and Miguel Cabrera are the only players to win three consecutive batting titles.

Luis Arraez, who currently leads the NL with a .315 batting average, could join that select group. He won the 2022 American League batting title with Minnesota, was the 2023 National League batting champ with Miami and, after beginning this season with the Marlins, he is hitting .320 in 102 games with the Padres to push his season average to .315.

He is 22-for-48 over his last 11 games to take over the batting lead.

The Padres have just three quality starts over the last seven games and that is a cause for concern.

5. New York Mets (+1400)

The Mets move into the top five in the weekly National League Power Rankings after winning seven of their first eight games in September. The lone loss came when the New York Mets failed to protect a 1-0 lead heading into the seventh inning against the Cincinnati Reds.

There are still seven games left with the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies and a three-game series with Atlanta in two weeks could have significant playoff implications.

Mark Vientos is hitting .348 with five home runs in his last eight games. MVP candidate Francisco Lindor looks to get going again after being hitless in his last 10 at-bats.

When looking at the MLB betting trends, the Mets have covered in 38 of 69 road games.
