Opening Day Starting Pitchers for 2020 MLB

MLB betting fans will need a little help getting back on track after such a long hiatus but our Opening Day starting pitchers for 2020 MLB preview should do just that. Opening Day Starting Pitchers

JULY 23rd

New York Yankees vs Washington Nationals

  • When: 7:08 pm EST
  • Where: Nationals Park
  • TV: ESPN

New York Yankees

The Yankees will start RHP Gerrit Cole. Cole, at $36-million, has the biggest contract of any of the Opening Day starting pitchers. He signed his contract only in December and will look to make a dominant impression. He’s coming off a 20-5, 2.5 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP season. New York cracked the top of our 2020 MLB Power Rankings so we’re expecting it to come out on top. This contest will kick off the season.

Washington Nationals

The Nats enter as the defending World Series champions for the first time in franchise history. They’ll be looking to make a statement at home and will turn to RHP Max Scherzer to do so. Scherzer put up an 11-7 season in 2019 that included a 2.92 ERA and a 1.027 WHIP.

San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Dodgers

  • When: 10:08 pm EST
  • Where: Dodger Stadium
  • TV: ESPN

San Francisco Giants

The Giants brought in manager Gabe Kapler to help turn things around. Kapler will call upon Johnny Cueto, who was 1-2 season in 2019 that saw him undergo Tommy John surgery. Considering who the Giants are facing, it looks like it will be a long night for San Fran.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers had an early exit to last year’s postseason. However, they’re loaded with talent and will be looking for a blowout here. Clayton Kershaw will be called to the mound. Kershaw finished last year’s action with a 16-5 record as well as a 3.03 ERA and a 1.043 WHIP. The Dodgers are tied with the Yankees at +350 odds to win the 2020 World Series.

JULY 24th

Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets

  • When: 4:10 pm EST
  • Where: Citi Field
  • TV: ESPN

Atlanta Braves

The Braves were NL East champions last season. They want to get out of the gate fast and in order to do so, Atlanta will call upon Mike Soroka, who posted a 13-4 record in 2019 that included a 2.68 ERA and a 1.111 WHIP.

New York Mets

The Mets posted an 86-76 record to finish third in the NL East. They’ll kick off the 2020 MLB regular season with RHP Jacob deGrom. He’ll be looking to build off last year’s stats; 11-8 record, 2.43 ERA, and a 0.971 WHIP.

Detroit Tigers vs Cincinnati Reds

  • When: 6:10 pm EST
  • Where: Great American Ball Park

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers open with LHP Matthew Boyd heading to the mound. Boyd is coming off a 9-12 mark that saw him post a 4.56 ERA and a 1.230 WHIP. Bet on Detroit’s MLB over/under odds for the 2020 season.

Cincinnati Reds

Cincinnati will turn to RHP Sonny Gray in its matchup against Atlanta. Gray is coming off a moderately successful 11-8 season that included a 2.87 ERA and a 1.084 WHIP.

Toronto will start Hyun-Jin Ryu, who came over from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason. Ryu’s 2019 with LA consisted of a 14-5 record, 2.32 ERA, and a 1.007 WHIP.

Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay will send Charlie Morton to the mound. Morton is coming off one of his more successful seasons, posting a 16-6 record, 3.05 ERA and 1.084 WHIP in 2019.

Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee is set to start Brandon Woodruff, who finished the 2019 season with an 11-3 record, a 3.62 ERA and a 1.142 WHIP.

Chicago Cubs

Chicago will be going with none other than RHP Kyle Hendricks, who was 11-10 with a 3.46 ERA, and a 1.130 WHIP last season.

Miami will start RHP Sandy Alcantara, who went 6-14, with a 3.88 ERA, and a 1.318 WHIP last season.

The Phillies start RHP Aaron Nola, who posted a 12-7 record, 3.87 ERA and a 1.265 WHIP in 2019.

The Royals start LHP Danny Duffy against the Indians. Duffy finished last year with a 7-6 record as well as a 4.34 ERA and a 1.309 WHIP.

The Indians opening day starting pitcher will be Shane Bieber, who psted a 15-8 record in 2019 as well as a 3.28 ERA and a 1.054 WHIP.

Boston will be looking to get a win from RHP Nathan Eovaldi on Opening Day. Eovaldi is coming off a 2-1, 5.99 ERA, and 1.581 WHIP season.

Colorado elected to start German Marquez. The RHP delivered a 12-5, 4.76 ERA, and 1.201 WHIP season for the Rockies last year.

Texas Rangers

Lance Lynn gets the starting nod from Texas. Lynn went 16-11 in 2019 and posted a 3.67 ERA and 1.219 WHIP as well. He’ll be vying to improve those stats in the 2020 MLB opening day lineups.

Minnesota is likely to call on Jose Berrios as their opening day starting pitcher. Berrios’ 2019 season (14-8 record, 3.68 ERA and 1.223 WHIP) make it seem like he’ll have success this time around.

Chicago White Sox

Chicago will send RHP Lucas Giolito to the mound. Giolito turned in a 14-9 record, 3.41 ERA, and a 1.064 last season.

St. Louis will call upon RHP Jack Flaherty, who posted an 11-8 record, as well as a 2.75 ERA and a 0.968 WHIP in 2019.

The Mariners will be looking to get a win out of Marco Gonzales, who went 16-13 last year, and posted a 3.99 ERA and a 1.310 WHIP.

The Astros will call upon Justin Verlander, who is coming off a season that saw him go 21-6, with a 2.58 ERA, and 0.803 WHIP. The World Series odds are favoring Houston as the third-best team to win it all this year.

Madison Bumgarner gets the start as he debuts for Arizona The lefty posted a 9-9 record with San Francisco in 2019 and a 3.90 ERA as well as a1.127 WHIP.

San Diego is hoping Chris Paddack can lead them to a victory. Paddack’s 2019 stat sheet read 9-7, 3.33 ERA and a 0.981 WHIP.

Los Angeles is expected to start LHP Andrew Heaney, whose stat sheet read 4-6, 4.91 ERA and 1.290 WHIP last season.

Oakland Athletics

Oakland will turn to RHP Frankie Montas, who is coming off a 9-2, 2.63 ERA, 1.115 WHIP season.
