September baseball is almost here, with just over a month of the MLB regular season left. For teams in the playoff hunt, that makes nearly every series going forward that much more important, especially this one between the Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have decent MLB odds of reaching the World Series.
In the American League, the Orioles have the second-best odds (+330) of reaching the World Series. Then, in the NL, the Dodgers are the favorites in our odds to win the National League (+170).
That makes the matchup between these two teams in the World Series very possible. BetUS has odds up on World Series matchups, with the line set at +1000 for the Orioles and Dodgers to face each other. This three-game series is a possible preview of what we could see in late October.

Orioles vs Dodgers Series Predictions
Game 1: Dodgers Should Take Full Advantage
In the first game of this series, the Orioles will not have their best-starting pitcher on the mound. After spending most of August in the minor leagues, Cole Irvin will get the start due to the Orioles’ starting rotation injuries. This season, Irvin has an ERA of 4.82. His one start in the month came on the 21st when Irvin allowed two runs in 4.1 innings. That is a good stat line, but the Dodgers have one of the best lineups in the league, averaging the fourth most runs per game (4.95).

However, the Dodgers lineup alone should not be the only reason why MLB lines are going to favor them for the opening game of this series. They will have Jack Flaherty get the start, and he has looked good for the Dodgers since being traded at the deadline. Over five starts, Flaherty has a 3.22 ERA, and in his last outing, he looked good. Flaherty allowed two (one earned) runs over 5.2 innings while striking out five batters. The Orioles also have a good lineup, averaging the third most runs per game (4.98), but Flaherty has the pitching advantage over Irvin.

Game 2: Orioles Have Ace on the Mound
In the second game of this series, the pitching advantage flips. This is a big series for the Orioles, trying to prove they can match up well with other teams that have MLB predictions of being in the World Series. They will be helped out by having their ace, Corbin Burnes, on the mound. However, August has not been a kind month for Burnes. Over four starts in the month, he has an 8.71 ERA, allowing 22 runs (20 earned) in 20.2 innings. Burnes allowed six runs, five earned, in 5.2 innings in his last appearance, which is concerning. Despite that, it makes sense to back him to get back on track in this high-leverage matchup.

On the other hand, the Dodgers will have one of their struggling pitchers take the mound. Walker Buehler has not found his groove this season, mainly because he has not been healthy since 2022. Buehler has a 6.09 ERA, which is made worse by his recent starts. In June, Buehler made three starts, allowing 14 runs (12 earned) in 12 innings, before picking up another injury. Since returning to the rotation on August 14, Buehler has allowed seven runs (six earned) in 7.1 innings over two starts.
Game 3: Ready For Runs
Out of the three games in this series, the third might be the hardest for MLB betting. One team has a pitching advantage in the first two games, which should help predict the winner. But in the final game, both starting pitchers have struggled this season.
Cade Povich has a 6.10 ERA and a 1-6 record in his 10 starts for the Orioles. The Dodgers will start Bobby Miller, who has only made nine starts this season with a 7.49 ERA. Both pitchers have had two starts in August, with their month ERAs over 5.50.

With these pitchers on the mound, the best betting option for this game might be the over. The Orioles and Dodgers have stacked lineups, which should put up runs in this game. Shohei Ohtani is leading the Dodgers in batting average, runs batted in, and home runs while being the favorite to win the NL MVP (-2000). The lineup also features Mookie Betts and Max Muncy, as these three batters have combined for 19 RBIs over the last six games.
The Orioles have their own stacked lineup, headlined by Anthony Santander, Gunnar Henderson, and Adley Rutschman, with each already having over 70 RBIs this season. Given the pitching on the mound, both lineups should be expected to put up a lot of runs in this third and final game.
Orioles vs Dodgers Series Prediction: Dodgers 2-1
In this possible World Series preview, it makes sense to back the Dodgers in MLB picks. They should win the first game, having the pitching advantage. Then, in the possible rubber match game, being the home team should help them if the winner is decided by the team that scores the most runs.
