Red Sox Sign Alex Bregman to a $120 Million Contract

The Red Sox Are Making a Whole Lot of Noise This Offseason Following the Signing of Former Astros Alex Bregman

Look at You Red Sox, Acting Like Big Spenders

Chalk up a huge, potential season-changing win for the Boston Red Sox following MLB news reports of the team landing the best available free agent this offseason, former Houston Astros star Alex Bregman.

Holding their ground in a sweepstake that included the Detroit Tigers and Chicago Cubs, both teams that, according to MLB rumors, looked like the two standing favorites to land the former two-time All-Star, Gold Glove, and World Series champion, the Red Sox were able to land Bregman, who now joins a Boston team ready to climb its way back up the AL East ladder.

But what about Houston? When did they drop out of the race to retain one of the most important players in franchise history?

After failing to find common ground with Bregman’s party, the Astros let him go. While Red Sox fans jump for joy and pinch themselves twice to make sure the news is true, Astros fans are hoping this move won’t come back to bite them in the ass, considering Alex Bregman’s stats and accolades with the team.

Bregman Wanted a Long-Term Deal, Ended Up Settling

So how did Bregman end up with Boston and settle on a three-year deal with opt-outs after each of the first two seasons? Considering he was looking for a long-term contract, no betting odds expert following up Bregman’s saga could have foreseen what was to come.

Pending physical exams with Boston’s physicians, an undisclosed amount of deferred money has been discussed as one of the contract’s most important tipping points in Boston’s favor. Plus, the $40 million per year that Bregman will be making now is $10 million above what other teams in contention were willing to offer the player.

Are you still unsure how Bregman’s contract went down? Believe me, it took me a minute to understand, too.

As Bregman prepares to potentially take over 2nd base in all Red Sox games for the next three seasons, would it be better to explain the deal using candy as an example?

Now I want a Reese’s peanut butter cup.

Is it Time to Start Believing in the Red Sox Again?

It has been some time since the Red Sox were an actual threat in any MLB games. Between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles taking over the spotlight in the AL East and Boston fighting to stay relevant and compete, Fenway has seen some better days.

Following Bregman’s arrival, alongside Walker Buehler’s and Garrett Crochet’s, plus Trevor Story, Lucas Giolito, and Garrett Whitlock all coming back though, even as someone who does not hold any sort of love or care for Boston in his heart, I have to say, it might be time to fear the Sox again.

Bregman can offer the Sox an immediate impact player who can give them a legitimate chance to not only give the Yankees a scare but also once again become MLB picks and predictions powerhouses next season.

So, what’s the verdict? Are you taking the Sox next season or leaving them out to dry?
