The Weekend Wrap-Up: CFP Brackets Set, Philly, and KC Scrape By, Soto Got His Bag & More
Juan Soto’s Mega Deal, the Final CFP Brackets Being Set, and the NFL Delivering Once Again
CFP Brackets Are In! ‘Bama Is Out!
Man, did those college football games bring it, or what this weekend? With conference title bouts throughout the country, there was no shortage of thrills, drama, and Alabama getting the UN-invitation for this year’s playoffs.

From Clemson’s dramatic recovery to beat SMU for the ACC crown 34-31, thus helping them land a CFP berth by winning their conference, to Georgia’s backup QB Gunner Stockton subbing for Carson Beck, who, according to NCAAF news from the game suffered a right-arm injury on his team’s final play on offense in the game’s first half, there was a bit of everything for everybody.
But above all, can we please talk about Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty making one more run for his case to win this year’s Heisman? And also, Oregon, we see you, salute you, and respect you! Brag about it; you’re the best college football team on the land right now.
So, what’s next? If you’re in Alabama, chilling at home and waiting for the holidays. But if you’re part of the final 12 teams that made it into the CFP, your time to shine is coming!

Sorry not sorry Crimson Tide.
Darnold Balls Out, Eagles & Chiefs Scrape By
While Saturday gave fans their fix of college football, Sunday was all about the NFL and once again, the pros did not disappoint.
Between the Jets finally being eliminated from the playoffs by losing in OT against Miami, the Jaguars and Titans proving you can bring NFL betting odds fans to the brink of death from boredom after their game, and other action dropping around the league, let me put the spotlight on three specific moments.
Oh yeah, and also, what was that way of losing in LA, Buffalo? Don’t you go and “Bills” everything up before the playoffs.
But anyway, back to the positive scope of things, Sam Darnold had himself a game and then some. I don’t know what was said in the Vikings’ locker room before their game against the Falcons, but Darnold came out playing like a man possessed by the talents everybody has longed to see in his career in the pros.
Talk about spoiling Kirk Cousins’ return to Minnesota.

Over in Philly, I get all the NFL rumors swirling that WR AJ Brown is pissed with his team’s passing game. Having a player who can easily be a top-5 receiver in the league running routes like he needs the cardio instead of using him to exploit opposing defenses could lead you to almost losing to the Panthers.
Yes, Bryce Young’s Panthers.

Last but not least. I don’t want to be the one to raise any conspiracies, but whoever is playing with the Chiefs’ vision board for the season is doing some great work. Following a last-second field goal win against the LA Chargers, if dating Taylor Swift was the reason Kansas went all the way last season, beating opponents in the final seconds of each game is what’s trending now.

Seriously, how did that kick go in…
Chris Paul Makes NBA History
Over in the NBA, while the East is still controlled by the Cavs, Celtics, Magic (who will be without star shooter Franz Wagner indefinitely), and Knicks, and the West is all about the Thunder and 11 out of 15 teams over .500 for the season, my nod goes to this generation’s best point guard, Mr. Chris Paul.
CP3 to Wemby.
Assist No. 12,092.
Chris Paul is now 2nd all-time in dimes! pic.twitter.com/h6yZt2cDZR
— NBA (@NBA) December 9, 2024
Taking over second place in the all-time list for most assists in the league, trailing only Utah Jazz bonafide legend John Stockton, CP3’S 12,099 career assists put him still 3,707 dimes away from Stockton’s 15,806. Still, who knows? If Paul keeps balling as he does, his NBA stats could read much differently when he calls it a day.
There’s Money, and Then There’s Juan Soto’s Money
Yes, baseball has been done and over with for some time now. But damn Juan Soto, talk about going out and getting yourself a payday!
Breaking: Juan Soto and the New York Mets are in agreement on a 15-year, $765 million contract, sources tell @jeffpassan.

With reports of the New York Mets signing Soto to a massive 15-year, $765M contract, beating the Yankees out by a cool $5M, I can just imagine what’s going through Mets and Yankees fans’ minds right now.

Live it up Mets fans, Soto, Lindor, and Grimace next season? It’s about to be a show at Citi Field.
A Couple More Bits for Kicks
Over in the UFC, flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja showed why he is one of the best fighters in Dana White’s promotion, beating challenger Kai Asakura by submission at the 2:05 mark of their UFC 310 main event fight.
After beating Asakura, can Pantoja finally get the recognition he deserves as one of the top-5 pound-for-pound fighters in the world?
Alexandre Pantoja thanks Kai Asakura for improving him as a fighter, but feels that he would’ve finished anything in front of him on Saturday night 😳

Last but not least, over in Abu Dhabi, UAE, F1 called it a season with an emotional last race, which saw McLaren’s Lando Norris take first place. This win helped McLaren propel itself to winning its first constructor’s title this century, making it a pretty sweet day out in the Middle East.

Lastly, bringing the emotional side to the race, Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz bid farewell to their current teams, Mercedes and Ferrari, as they prepare to join new squads next season. With Sainz joining Williams and Hamilton taking the Spaniard’s spot in Ferrari, change was coming, and emotions ran high in Abu Dhabi.

As we wait for the new season, tell me you’re not excited about Hamilton racing with Ferrari. Somebody tell Verstappen to start training ASAP.
