Yankees Acquire Former MVP Cody Bellinger in Trade

The New York Yankees Continue Making Moves in Their Post-Soto Era Acquiring Bellinger From the Cubs

From No Soto to Fried & Now Bellinger

The New York Yankees are poised to continue being the winning side of the Juan Soto breakup after MLB news reported that the Bronx Bombers acquired OF/1B Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs alongside a hefty wad of cash in a trade that sent right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet to Wrigley.

Bellinger, a former NL MVP from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is now set to take over the center field spot for New York, meaning Aaron Judge, the team’s captain and biggest star, will move to right field.

According to MLB rumors, the Cubs were looking to avoid any unnecessary complications in trade scenarios involving the veteran, considering the contract implications behind a potential move.

So, what does this mean in simple terms? Bellinger had two years and $52.5 million remaining in his three-year deal with the Cubs. Chicago needed a team willing to take Bellinger off their hands to get a little wiggle room, economically speaking, allowing them to continue going after some new talent this offseason.

So, in a way, it’s a win-win for everybody, but especially the Yankees. Just by looking at Cody Bellinger’s stats, New York is the clear winner here.

The Bellingers and the Yankees, It’s a Family Thing

Funny enough, Bellinger’s move to the Yankees could easily be taken as a walk down memory lane of sorts. From 1999 to 2001, another Bellinger, Clay, Cody’s father, suited up for New York, playing 181 MLB games for the team, winning the 2000 World Series playing every position on the field besides catcher and pitcher.

While Clay’s career with the Yankees went off without any real excitement, it’s safe to say the same is not expected for Cody, who is expected to help bring the team’s defensive stats up substantially, especially considering last season’s World Series fiasco on D.

Yes, Judge, I’m talking about you; your dropped ball will haunt baseball fans for quite some time still.

Who’s Stopping Bellinger, Judge & Stanton?

Is it safe to say the Yankees are starting to get their groove again? The deal to land Max Fried to become the team’s second starter behind Gerrit Cole already makes their rotation one of the strongest in the AL.

Just imagine if they can get another ace for sh*ts and giggles. New York’s rotation would become an instant favorite for MLB baseball parlay picks.

But we’re not here to talk about pitching, we did that a few days ago talking about Fried’s signing.

Let’s talk about the potential lineup the Yankees could be looking at working with this coming season.

The simple fact that Judge, Bellinger, and Stanton will now be headlining New York’s top-of-the-order in the 2-3-4 slots makes any baseball betting odds start to tinker with excitement for what’s to come.

Having a three-time AL MVP batting second, followed by a former NL MVP batting third, and Stanton, the team’s bonafide power hitter right behind, it feels like the ingredients for a perfect storm, but this time in New York’s favor.

Bask in the fun Yankee fans. Let the Mets have Soto, you continue doing you.
