3 MLB Picks to Bet in NLCS Game 3

1. Oh-Fer For Ohtani? Bet on Shohei to Steal a Base and Get Some Runs

Not likely. But in one of the more remarkable statistical trends we’ve ever seen, Ohtani is now 0-for-19 with 10 strikeouts with nobody on base this postseason and 6-for-8 with a homer and three walks with runners on. Going back to the regular season, he’s riding a remarkable 16-for-19 with runners in scoring position.

Both trends will have some correction at some point. That first one – the 0-for-19 stat – could be altered in this one, as Ohtani has absolutely owned Luis Severino in their somewhat limited matchups. The Dodgers slugger has a home run, a double, a single and two walks in eight career plate appearances against Severino, part of a 1.792 OPS.

Of course, one of the reasons Ohtani is so good with runners on is because nobody wants to work around him to face Mookie Betts. That will be the case on Wednesday as Betts has also owned Severino, hitting .324 with a homer and six walks in a larger sample size.

This all sets up really well for Ohtani to do damage in either spot. He’s also a great candidate to record his first career postseason stolen base. Severino has allowed three steals in these playoffs – more than any other NL starter – and closer Edwin Diaz has allowed an MLB-high five.

Perhaps putting a pair of Shohei wagers on the same MLB betting ticket will be a winning parlay.

Bet on Ohtani to Have at Least One Stolen Base and at Least Two Runs + RBI (+326)

2. A Sneakt Bet, Go With Jose Iglesias to Get a Hit

If any Jose Iglesias numbers come up among the MLB playoff odds for this game, pounce on them. The veteran infielder hit .400 in 37 home games this season with three of his four home runs and his only stadium concert coming in Queens. He’s hit safely in 10 of his last 12 playoff games (drawing a walk in one of the other two). And he’s a career .400 hitter against Walker Buehler.

That gives Iglesias plenty of numbers to work with as he sits as a sneaky good option for some damage.

3. Run Around, Bet on Mets vs Dodgers Over

Seven of the Mets nine playoff games so far have finished with at least eight runs between the teams. For the Dodgers, it’s six of seven games with at least eight runs. Just by that logic alone, taking the over at 7½ runs (-115) makes a lot of sense. Throw in the fact that the pitching matchup leaves a little to be desired, and you have the recipe for an easy MLB bet.

Buehler gave up six runs in five innings with ZERO strikeouts at San Diego in Game 3 of the NLDS, a start that ended with a dugout tirade. Including that outing, he has a 5.71 ERA in 17 starts this year as his comeback from Tommy John continues to fall flat.

As for Severino, he carries a 5.01 ERA in his postseason career into this one. He’s posted a pair of quality starts in these playoffs but has also allowed at least three runs in five straight outings dating back to the regular season.

Bet on Mets vs Dodgers Over 7½ Runs (-112)
