Aces Duel in Game 2 of AL West Matchup
The Los Angeles Angels will continue a four-game series against the Houston Astros on Thursday. Both teams are trying to move up the American League West standings. The best starters for each pitching staff will get the start in the second game of the series, affecting MLB lines.
The Astros won Game 1 of this series 5-2, with Alex Bregman and José Abreu having two RBIs each. Houston’s bullpen did a great job holding the lead, allowing five base runners in 3.2 scoreless innings.

In the game to win the series against the Chicago White Sox, the Angels’ two stars headlined MLB news for an impressive display. They combined for three homers and six RBIs for a 12-5 win. If that play continues, it will be hard to beat Los Angeles.
Astros Pushing for Division Lead
Most sportsbooks had the Houston Astros being the likely division winners, coming off a season where they dominated and won the World Series. However, an injury to Jose Altuve may have slowed Houston down a little. Now that Altuve is back, the Astros are 8-2 when he plays despite only winning two of the last four series since his return. There is one issue with those series wins – the Astros twice swept the Oakland Athletics, the worst team in baseball.
Houston is only 2½ games back of first place in the division and could use this series to close the gap.
Starting Pitchers
Shohei Ohtani (5-1, 2.91 ERA) vs Framber Valdez (5-4, 2.38)
The two best pitchers in each team’s rotation are taking the mound, which will affect the MLB spreads. Ohtani is coming off a start where he pitched six innings, allowing one run and striking out 10. His last two starts have been welcome sights for Los Angeles. He struggled in his first three outings of May, giving up six homers and 12 runs.
Houston will have Framber Valdez, who has been consistently dominant this season. He rebounded from his worst start by winning his last two outings, giving up one run in 15 innings. In May, Valdez finished with a 2.18 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 33 innings over his five starts.
