Oakland Winner of Three Straight
The Oakland Athletics go for a fourth straight win when they face the division rival Los Angeles Angels in the first of a four-game weekend series on Friday night. Oakland took the final three games of a five-game set against the Detroit Tigers on the road but remains in last place in the AL West standings. Los Angeles had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 10-inning loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday and trails the Houston Astros by a half-game for the top spot in the division. These teams are familiar with each other, so this should be a close series. Check out our in-depth preview to help you determine how you want to make your bet online.
Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports, and MLB odds for Angels vs Athletics. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Power Outage Costs Angels AL West Top Spot
With the Houston Astros on a 10-game winning streak entering Friday’s action, there is no room for error for the Los Angeles Angels these days. That’s why the team’s Wednesday loss to the Tampa Bay Rays was costly, as Los Angeles managed just two runs in 10 innings after averaging 11.5 runs in the first two games of the series.
Outfielder Taylor Ward provided all of the offense with a pinch-hit two-run homer in the game. Ward is batting .367 with four doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored in 23 games.
Mike Trout is putting up MVP-like numbers yet again, ranking fifth with a .337 average and tying for third in the majors with nine home runs. Trout also has eight doubles, a triple, 19 RBIs and 25 runs scored (tops in the American League), and he drew a walk in his only plate appearance in Wednesday’s loss.
The Angels will have 21-year-old right-hander Chase Silseth making his MLB debut. Silseth was an 11th-round pick in the 2021 draft and is being promoted from Double-A ball, where he has a 1.73 ERA.
Athletics Looking To Keep Hot Streak Going
The Oakland Athletics are hoping their successful week in Detroit will turn into a longer run. The Athletics had lost nine straight prior to playing five games against the Detroit Tigers, so any success, even against a team that is struggling, brings hope to the team.
“Coming here on Sunday night, I think we were all pretty frustrated with how we were playing,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said after Thursday’s win. “The guys made some adjustments and it obviously paid off. It feels good to be back on track.”
Trying to keep that winning going on the mound on Friday will be right-hander Daulton Jefferies, who is 1-5 with a 5.22 ERA in six starts. Jefferies has lost five straight starts, including a loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday in which he went five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking none.
Catcher Sean Murphy drove in a pair of runs in Wednesday’s win over the Tigers, upping his team-high total to 17. Murphy is batting .214 but has 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 17 runs scored.
Outfielder Seth Brown had the big blow in Thursday’s victory with a two-run home run, tying Murphy with 17 RBIs. Brown has a .172 batting average with four doubles, a triple, three home runs and eight runs scored.
Angels vs Athletics Head-to-Head
Friday will be the first of 19 matchups between the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics, with seven of them coming over the next 10 days. The Athletics have dominated this series of late, including a 15-4 record against the Angels in 2021.
Playing at home against Los Angeles, Oakland went 7-2 last season to improve to 19-7 against the Angels in Oakland Coliseum in the past three seasons. Looking at the MLB lines, that history isn’t being considered too heavily, as the visiting Angels are getting the edge.

Angels vs Athletics Prediction
Although the Oakland Athletics are coming in on a three-game winning streak, they achieved that against one of the worst teams in baseball. The Los Angeles Angels have been playing very well and will get a boost from the debut of Silseth on the mound in this one.
