Let’s check the latest MLB picks, stats, injury reports and MLB odds for Angels vs Rangers. We’ve plenty of MLB predictions.
Pitching Fails Angels in Opener
The Los Angeles Angels had great pitching in their last two games of their weekend series, holding the Oakland Athletics to a single run in each of their two wins, but Monday night was a different story. The Texas Rangers had six runs after just one inning off Noah Syndergaard, who managed to get just two outs before being pulled in the 7-4 loss.
Rookie left-hander Reid Detmers is hoping for a better result when he takes the mound on Tuesday. The 22-year-old is 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA in six starts, striking out 20 over 31 innings of work.
He did struggle in his previous start against Texas on April 15, going 3.1 innings and allowing five runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one. But Detmers is coming off a no-hitter against the Tampa Bay Rays on May 10, striking out two and walking one.
Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and three strikeouts on Monday night. The reigning AL MVP has eight doubles, eight home runs, 27 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Offense Erupts for Rangers
The Texas Rangers have had their troubles at the plate at times, but that wasn’t the case on Monday night. Pitcher Sonny Gray struggled a bit in the first inning, allowing three runs to the Los Angeles Angels, but he was lifted up by his offense, which put six runs on the board in the bottom of the frame.
“It just gives you another chance,” Gray said after Monday’s win. “After a rough first inning like that, you can kind of feel like you already screwed the game. So for them to battle back like that and take the lead and even hold it, like that was an incredible offense. It wasn’t just one or two guys either, it was our whole lineup. Everybody had us. Everybody was productive, and that’s a good win.”
Outfielder Eli White had a big hit in the game, driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single to finish the scoring in the first. White went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. He is batting .256 with two doubles, a home run, four RBIs and nine runs scored.
Shortstop Corey Seager had an RBI and a run scored in the game and leads the Rangers in home runs with seven. Seager, in his first season with Texas, is batting .234 with a double, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
Left-hander Taylor Hearn will get the start for Tuesday’s contest. Hearn is 2-2 with a 5.26 ERA, striking out 29 in 25.2 innings over six starts. Hearn is coming off a win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday in which he threw five shutout innings of one-hit ball while striking out five and walking three.
