Rangers Seeks Fourth Win in Row
The Texas Rangers try for a fourth straight win and the sweep of a series with the visiting Los Angeles Angels when the two teams square off again on Wednesday night. Texas won the first two games of the series, moving into third place in the American League West standings.
Los Angeles has dropped into second place in the division with the two losses, a game behind the first-place Houston Astros. This should be another good game between division rivals, so make sure to research your bet online on the contest by reading our in-depth preview.
Angels Turn to Ohtani
The Los Angeles Angels have been having a hard time keeping the Texas Rangers off the board in the first two games of this series, allowing an average of 8.5 runs. Now they’ll have right-hander Shohei Ohtani getting the start for the series finale.
Ohtani is 3-2 with a 2.78 ERA in six starts, striking out 46 over 32.1 innings. He’s been very good in May, making two starts and going 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA over 13 innings.
The Angels seemed to be getting it done at the plate enough on Tuesday night before they allowed seven runs in the bottom of the eighth. Los Angeles got home runs from Carlos Rendon, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward in building a 4-3 lead.
Ward is leading baseball with a .376 batting average after a 1-for-5 night. He has five doubles, two triples, nine home runs, 23 RBIs and 26 runs scored.
Trout is ninth in baseball with a .325 batting average and tied for fourth in the majors with 10 home runs. The former AL MVP was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, one RBI and two runs scored on Tuesday night.
Seager Sparks Rangers
The Texas Rangers knew they were getting a player who was used to coming through in the clutch when they signed shortstop Corey Seager in the offseason. Seager was the MVP of the 2020 World Series, and he’s already helped his new team to some wins. He went 2-of-4 with a double, a home run and two runs scored on Tuesday and started the Rangers’ seven-run eighth inning with a double.
“Really cool to see everything click in that one inning. It won us the ballgame,” Rangers outfielder Kole Calhoun said after Tuesday’s win. “That’s what this team can do. It showed up in the first inning yesterday and it popped up in the eighth inning tonight.”
Seager is batting .242 with two doubles, eight home runs, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored.
Calhoun had a home run as part of a 2-for-3 night at the plate, driving in a pair of runs and scoring twice. Calhoun is batting .229 with two doubles, a triple, four home runs, 12 RBIs and seven runs scored.
Right-hander Dane Dunning will get the start for Texas in the series finale. Dunning is 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA in seven starts, striking out 37 in 37.2 innings. He’s coming off a rough outing against the Boston Red Sox on Friday, allowing five runs and six hits over 5.2 innings while striking out six and walking two.
