Picks, Prediction for Angels vs White Sox on Monday, May 29

Inconsistent Teams

The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox have started to play better recently but have not been consistent. That makes them challenging teams to go with for MLB betting, beginning a three-game series on Monday.

The Angels had won six of seven games before getting swept in their last series vs. the Miami Marlins. The White Sox had won three straight series but then lost the last one, losing three of four games against the Detroit Tigers.

Angels Swept

The last series against the Marlins was not the best for the Angels. They got swept at home, with the pitching staff struggling. That could factor into MLB lines for the next series.

In the first game, the Angels allowed 16 hits, leading to six runs. They had a quality start from Shohei Ohtani in the second game, but the bullpen allowed six runs, losing in extra innings. The hitting became an issue in Game 3, losing 2-0.

White Sox Pitching Stepping Up

Unlike last season, there was not a lot of hype around the White Sox and their possible MLB playoff odds, so being fourth in the American League Central division is not surprising. However, the team has been a little better, especially the pitching staff, which could be helping with scores and odds.

Over the last 15 days, Chicago has the third-lowest team ERA, set at 2.77. A massive part of that is because of the starters, who have the second-best ERA through the previous 14 days, at 2.76. This has not headlined MLB news but is a big reason why the White Sox are trending upwards.

Starting Pitchers

Griffin Canning (3-2, 4.95 ERA) vs Michael Kopech (3-4, 4.24)

Both pitchers are coming off very impressive performances, which should be considered when making MLB picks. Griffin Canning went through seven innings clean, only allowing two hits, walking three, and adding five strikeouts. However, this was by far his best start, allowing 13 runs over his last three starts in 14 innings.

While Michael Kopech’s last start was also great, what sets him apart is he has been much more consistent. Kopech also went seven clean innings allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out nine. Furthermore, he has been excellent over five starts in May, with an ERA of 1.99.

Angels vs White Sox Head-to-Head

The Angels won the series last season, 4-3, with the teams alternating wins. However, in five games, Chicago covered the run line.

Over/Under Pick

Based on what these pitchers did in the last game, the under should be a good option. Canning and Kopech looked good in their last starts, and if that carries over, both lineups could have difficulty scoring. Furthermore, both teams have only hit the over in four of the last 10 games.

Pick: Under 9 (-115)

Moneyline Pick

With how consistent the starting pitching for the White Sox has been, they seem to have a solid chance to win. The starter has held opponents to low-scoring games, and the bullpen has often done just enough. There will be some pressure on the White Sox offense to put up runs, but if they can get to the Angels bullpen, that could open up more opportunities.

Pick: White Sox -131
