Astros vs Dodgers Prediction and Best Bets Today, July 5

My prediction

Moneyline Pick: Astros (+130)

Framber Valdez has given up just six earned runs in his last five starts. He held opposing hitters to a .214 average and dominated in June with a 1.74 ERA. Meanwhile, Shohei Ohtani will be making the start for Los Angeles, but he hasn’t pitched more than two innings in a game this year, which makes me favor the full-strength starter with elite splits and better momentum in this most exciting of the MLB games on Saturday.

Ohtani is an ace, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t feel like he’s found his groove yet on the bump in 2025.

Bet On Astros ML (+130)

Over/Under Pick: Under 8.5 (-110)

The Dodgers are averaging just 3.7 runs per game over their last seven and have hit .237 as a team in July. They scored just one run in Friday’s 18-1 blowout. Houston, meanwhile, is backed by a strong bullpen, and I don’t expect another 18-run explosion. I’m leaning heavily towards under among my MLB game picks based on recent form and the Dodgers’ struggles against left-handed pitchers.

The Dodgers are batting just .159 as a team against Valdez with 36 strikeouts in 107 at-bats. Will Smith (.324) and Freddie Freeman (.309) can make contact, but Ohtani is just 5-for-36 with 12 strikeouts vs Valdez. If Valdez can work into the sixth inning, he should clear this line, making this one of the best MLB player prop bets for this contest.

Game Prop Pick: Dodgers Under 4.5 (-125)

Valdez has allowed two or fewer runs in eight of his last nine starts, including back-to-back scoreless outings vs the Cubs and the Phillies. Los Angeles has been cold against lefties (.259), so I like Houston to keep the Dodgers quiet yet again. Take the Los Angeles under when you bet online.
