The Houston Astros are one of the favorites to win the World Series, according to the MLB odds, but they’ve been stumbling lately. They’ve lost three out of their past five, including two to the Boston Red Sox.
They did bounce back Wednesday, 6-1. Meanwhile, the Guardians have won three of their last four, six of nine.
The Houston Astros are sending out righthander Justin Verlander Thursday night. He has proven to be one of the best pitchers in the bigs, 14-3 with an ERA of 1.81. Each of those stats have him ranked No. 1 in the league.
When it comes to WHIP, he’s at 0.87 the second-best mark. He will have to be careful with Jose Ramirez, though, who has had his number in their battles. Ramirez is hitting .367 against Verlander with two homers.
Verlander’s on a tear. He has won six straight games, having surrendered just five runs (41.2 innings) in that span.
Safe to say Houston is in good hands Thursday night.
Guardians Counter with Plesac
The Cleveland Guardians are starting righty Zach Plesac. He hasn’t prospered, 2-9 with a 4.33 ERA. Cleveland’s lost four of the past five games that he’s pitched.
If there’s one bright light in this game, it’s Plesac at home. He’s 1-2 with a 3.02 ERA in Houston. an unseemly 1-7 record on the road, a 5.31 atrocious ERA. However, Houston has drilled him, a .347 average, with Trey Mancini, Alex Bregman and Jose Altuve all at .400 or better.

The Astros have opposed Guardians three times this season, owning a 2-1 record..
