Houston on Two-Game Slide
The Seattle Mariners try to extend their two-game winning streak and sweep a weekend series from the visiting Houston Astros when the division rivals square off on Sunday. Seattle has taken the first two games of the series, including a 6-0 win on Saturday night, and sits in fourth place in the AL West. Houston remains atop the division standings by 2½ games over the second-place Los Angeles Angels despite the two straight losses. These teams have gone back and forth this season, so make sure you read this in-depth preview of Sunday’s game before you make any bet online on the series finale.
Astros Bats Suddenly Silent in Seattle
The Houston Astros have been having trouble at the plate during this series, scoring a total of one run after getting shut out on just five hits on Saturday night. Houston has had inconsistency with its offense throughout the season, but it’s gone to a new low, as this is the smallest output over a two-game span for the team in 2022.
Third baseman Alex Bregman was the only Houston player with multiple hits in the loss, going 2-for-3 with a walk, extending his hitting streak to six games. Bregman is batting .239 with 11 doubles, six home runs, 26 RBIs, and 22 runs scored.
Designated hitter Michael Brantley has been having troubles at the plate of late, going 3-for-16 over his last five games. Brantley is batting .279 with nine doubles, a triple, three home runs, 16 RBIs, and 16 runs scored.
Right-hander Luis Garcia will be on the mound. Garcia is 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA in eight starts, striking out 45 over 42⅔ innings. Garcia has losses in each of his last two starts, including a five-inning stint against the Cleveland Guardians on Monday in which he allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out four and walking two.
Mariners Finding Magic vs Astros
The Seattle Mariners have been struggling of late, but in this series, they’ve had their best both on the mound and at the plate in picking up a pair of easy wins. Saturday night saw Logan Gilbert dominate with his pitching and outfielder Kyle Lewis hit his second home run in as many nights after coming back to the team’s lineup earlier in the week.
“He brings more fear to our lineup,” Seattle third baseman Ty France said of Lewis after Saturday’s win. “We’ve got a good 1 through 9 and having him back, it just helps all of us. We know we’ve got another guy that can go out at any moment and do damage.”
Lewis has played in just four games after suffering a meniscus tear that limited him to 36 games in 2021. The AL Rookie of the Year in 2020 is batting .267 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
France was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs driven and a run scored on Saturday. He’s batting .342 (seventh in baseball) with 10 doubles, seven home runs, 34 RBIs (10th in the majors), and 22 runs scored.
Left-hander Marco Gonzales will try to keep things rolling for the Mariners when he makes his 10th start. Gonzales is 3-4 with a 3.74 ERA, striking out 27 over 43⅓ innings. This is his third start against the Houston Astros, as he’s gone 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA over 13 innings in the first two matchups.
Astros vs Mariners Head-to-Head
The series between these division rivals has been dominated by the home team, with the host going 7-1 in the first eight matchups this season. That’s good news for the Seattle Mariners, though they are the ones that dropped the home game in that record.
The Houston Astros have won the season series convincingly over the last three seasons, going 36-12 against the Mariners. Looking at the MLB lines for Sunday, the Astros are favored to turn things around with a win in the series finale.

Astros vs Mariners Prediction
It’s hard to imagine the Houston Astros having so much trouble scoring runs again in this one, but the Seattle Mariners are starting to get healthy and rolling. This one will be closer than the first two games, but we like the Mariners to come out on top again.
When doing your MLB betting, take Seattle to pick up the win at home.
