Home Opener for Minnesota

Astros Kick Off Six-Game Road Trip

The Minnesota Twins will kick off their home opener by hosting the defending World Series champion Houston Astros on Friday.

The Twins got their season off to a hot start by beginning 4-0, but they lost their last two games to the Miami Marlins after their offense stalled.

Astros Aim for Stability

Houston put an end to its three-game losing streak and avoided being swept at home by Detroit with an 8-2 win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

The Astros’ offense was solid against Detroit, averaging 5.7 runs in three games, but their pitching left something to be desired.

In its two losses against the Tigers, Houston gave up 13 runs, allowing 21 hits and a .271 batting average. In their win, the Astros allowed just two runs on seven hits and a .212 opponent batting average.

Jose Urquidy will be making his second start after pitching four innings against the Chicago White Sox, where he allowed three earned runs and seven hits, including two homers. Urquidy will be hoping for a better start against the Twins.

Twins: Offense Hits Snag

Minnesota has fallen in its last two games and lost its first series after its offense failed to produce.

In their two games prior to their losses, the Twins combined for 18 runs, led by Joey Gallo, who had three home runs for seven RBIs.

However, Minnesota’s strong bats were nowhere to be found in its last two games, as the team scored two runs on nine hits to lose the road series against Miami.

Gallo leads the Twins with three home runs, but Trevor Larnach’s .391 batting average is the best on the team. Minnesota will look to those two to help get its offense back on track against Houston.

Astros vs Twins Picks and Prediction

Neither team has put out consistent performances in their latest series, making it difficult for anyone making MLB bets.

Though their offense fell off in their last couple of games, the Twins’ pitching, aside from a couple of reliever outings, has remained solid. Sonny Gray should have another strong start. The Astros have been the opposite, as their offense has been the main reason for their wins. Minnesota’s offense should pick up again and, combined with its pitching, grab a win over the defending champions.
