A’s Finally Halt Slide
The Oakland Athletics try to match their longest winning streak this month with a second straight win against the host Texas Rangers when the two teams clash again on Wednesday night. Oakland snapped a nine-game losing streak with a win on Tuesday night but remains in last place in the American League West standings.
Texas had a three-game winning streak snapped with Tuesday’s setback and is in third place in the division, 1½ games ahead of the fourth-place Los Angeles Angels. These teams have had a close series, so to help you decide how you want to bet online on Wednesday’s contest, read our in-depth preview of the game.
Athletics Break Out With Big Offensive Game
The Oakland Athletics didn’t waste any time scoring runs in Tuesday’s contest against the Texas Rangers, scoring single runs in each of the first three innings to jump on top and never trail in the game. Oakland had 11 hits in the game after managing just three in the series opener on Monday night, including the first in the majors by rookie Shea Langeliers, who doubled on the first pitch he saw at the big league level.
“First at-bat, you’ve got the jitters, you’re excited, nervous, all that stuff,” Langeliers said after Tuesday’s win. “I felt like the only way to get past that was if he gave me a good first pitch to hit, I was swinging at it.“
Oakland also got a home run from Elvis Andrus, who went deep against his former team for the first time after playing 12 years with the Rangers prior to the 2021 campaign. Andrus is batting .237 with 24 doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBIs, and 41 runs scored in his second season with the Athletics.
Also going deep was catcher Sean Murphy, who hit his 14th home run in the third inning. Murphy is batting .246 with 26 doubles, a triple, a team-high 49 RBIs, and 48 runs scored.
Right-hander Adam Oller will be on the mound for Wednesday’s contest, bringing a 1-5 record and 7.26 ERA to his 10th start and 15th appearance. Oller has struck out 31 and walked 27 in his 48.1 innings. He went 4.2 innings against the Houston Astros on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three.
Rangers Under New Management
The second game at the helm as interim manager of the Texas Rangers was a little more difficult for Tony Beasley than his debut, as the team went just 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base in a loss. Texas had just one extra-base hit in the game and scored its only run on an infield single.
First baseman Nathaniel Lowe had three of the team’s nine hits in the game, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Lowe is batting .291 with 20 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, 49 RBIs and 51 runs scored.
Outfielder Adolis Garcia was 1-for-4 and scored the Rangers’ only run in the loss, improving his hitting streak to 13 games. Garcia is batting .304 in August with two doubles, a home run, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored.
Left-hander Cole Ragans will make just his third major league start on Wednesday. The 24-year-old is 0-1 with a 4.82 ERA with four strikeouts and seven walks. He’s coming off a loss against the Houston Astros on Thursday in which he went 4.1 innings and allowed five runs on six hits, including two home runs, while striking out one and walking three.
Athletics vs Rangers Head-To-Head
The Texas Rangers are still looking for the season series clincher as they have a 9-6 edge in 2022 against the Oakland Athletics. A season series win this year would be Texas’ first against Oakland since the 2016 campaign.
The Rangers are just 3-2 at home against Oakland and haven’t won the majority of their home games against the Athletics since 2017. Texas is getting the edge to pick up the series-clinching win by the MLB lines for Wednesday’s game.
