The Boston Red Sox will play host to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday to begin their eight-game homestand. The Red Sox had a difficult road trip but prevailed in the end by taking a series from the Seattle Mariners. The Orioles are coming off a 3-2 win over the Yankees at home.
The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Keegan Akin will pitch for the Orioles against Boston’s Chris Sale, who was cleared to return to the mound after testing positive for COVID-19 just over a week ago.
MLB odds have the Red Sox as favorites on the run line with a money line of -330. The Orioles are +270 to win, and the over/under is set at 9½ runs.
Red Sox Dominate 10th in Seattle
The Red Sox and Mariners battled in the final game of their three-game series. At the end of the third inning, the score was locked at three. The final six innings turned into a pitching battle between both bullpens.
The Mariners had an opportunity to win in the bottom of the ninth, but they did not deliver. The Red Sox left the door open after the top of the ninth, but they did not give Seattle the same opportunity in the 10th.
J.D. Martinez, Kyle Schwarber, and Christian Vazquez drove in a combined five runs in the bottom of the inning. Jack Lopez, the team’s designated runner, started the scoring by coming home on a passed ball thrown by Tom Murphy.
The final score did not resemble how close this game was on the field. Nevertheless, all that matters for the Red Sox is they got the win. Cora spoke after the game about the ten innings of difficulty in Seattle.
He said, “It was playoff baseball. It feels that way. It’s fun, to be honest with you. Not too many people thought that the last homestand of the season was going to mean something. Now it means a lot.”
The final homestand means a lot for the Red Sox, who lead the American League Wild Card with the Blue Jays. This is thanks to the Orioles, who defeated the Yankees 3-2 on Thursday. New York is now a half-back in the division.
The Remaining Slate
The AL Wild Card is turning into a three-game race between the Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays. Luckily for Boston, it has the easiest remaining schedule out of these teams. The Red Sox they should easily host the Wild Card game, but they have been inconsistent, so it’s hard to make a determination.
If you are making MLB picks to make the playoffs, I would go with the Red Sox and Blue Jays. It’s going to be a tight race, but New York’s schedule and play lately make them unlikely to clinch.
The Red Sox will play host to the Orioles, New York Mets and Yankees over eight games before facing Baltimore and Washington on the road. The Yankees finish the season by playing the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Rays, which will not be easy.
When you look at this game, you must find value. The Red Sox on the money line does not give much value because they are heavy favorites. If you are looking to bet online, this could be a great wager to include in an MLB parlay because the Red Sox are a lock pick.
If you find two other teams to include that should win, this could be a relatively easy wager. The bet that makes the most sense is Boston on the runline, especially with Sale on the mound Baltimore is coming off a win, so there is more value with this market.
The over also makes sense because Akin is pitching for Baltimore. Akin is 2-9 with a 6.83 ERA, so expect Boston to do some damage. With value and likelihood of hitting, Red Sox on the run line is the best wager for this game.
The Red Sox roll with a game one win on Friday night.
If the Red Sox comes out and plays well, this series should not be competitive. Boston should win with ease if they play up to their capability. Yet, this has been a challenge for the team amidst the COVID-19 breakout in the clubhouse.
Nick Pivetta will pitch for Boston in the second game of the series for the team against Zac Lowther of Baltimore. The final game will be between Eduardo Rodriguez and Tyler Wells. The Red Sox have the advantage in the series, but they need to take care of business.
The Yankees let Baltimore hang around and when this occurs, the Orioles can win games.
