Bank on Bradley, Fade Detmers in Monday’s Best MLB Player Props

Spring weather is in full effect! We have a beautiful schedule of MLB games to kick things off Monday. The season is still young, and there is plenty to learn about each team, but our consistently accurate MLB picks are here to deliver. We currently sit 30-30 with our MLB player props in May, but I’m looking for a sweep to begin our week! Our past success should give you the confidence to tag along.

Monday’s MLB schedule features 12 matchups, including a day-night doubleheader between the Braves and Padres. Plenty of new series are getting underway, including some marquee showdowns. Notably, the New York Yankees welcome the Seattle Mariners to town, with the Bronx Bombers surging. We also have the reigning National League champs opening up a three-game set on the road against the dangerous Los Angeles Dodgers.

Best MLB Player Props Today

MLB Bet: Rays SP Taj Bradley Over 6½ Strikeouts (+124)

I was hoping we could snag Taj Bradley again at 5½ strikeouts after we cashed at that number in his last outing on Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox. I’m happy to take this at plus money, but I wouldn’t talk you off paying the juice at 5½ again on the alternate line.

The Tampa Bay Rays will send 23-year-old righty Bradley to the bump against the Boston Red Sox tonight at Tropicana Field. Bradley made his season debut two weeks and went six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run with seven strikeouts against the New York Yankees. He followed it up with a five-inning, four-hit, six-strikeout performance against this Boston lineup at Fenway Park.

Bradley was excellent at times in his rookie campaign in 2023, including exceeding five strikeouts in 13 of 21 starts (61%). He made two starts against Boston last season, finishing with eight and six strikeouts at home and on the road. In his debut against the Yankees, his 118 Stuff+ was tremendous, up from 110 in 2023.

Boston’s lineup is inferior outside of Rafael Devers. In a small sample size of 27 at-bats, Bradley has 11 strikeouts against the projected Red Sox lineup. The Red Sox own the fourth-highest K% and sixth-highest WHIFF%. Boston has the third-most strikeouts in MLB, behind only the Seattle Mariners. Bank on Bradley again to fan at least six Red Sox batters tonight.

Angels SP Reid Detmers Over 2½ Earned Runs (-157)

The Los Angeles Angels continue their road trip against American League West opponents, and things don’t get easier tonight when they head to Minute Maid Park to take on the Houston Astros. Houston’s record (21-26) doesn’t tell us the whole story. Still, the Astros have one of the most talented lineups in MLB and are dangerous at home. The ‘Stros have won seven of their last eight and appear to be heating up.

Los Angeles will send veteran left-hander Reid Detmers to the rubber in tonight’s series opener. Detmers has made nine starts this season and allowed more than two earned runs in five. He owns a 5.19 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in his fourth MLB season.

Detmers is coming off four consecutive poor outings where he has failed to reach beyond the fifth inning. He has allowed at least 4 earned runs in five straight starts! Houston has the highest overall batting average in MLB (.265). The Astros are hitting an MLB-best .274 as a team at home and have the third-most runs scored at home among American League teams.

Detmers made three starts against Houston last season, and he allowed at least four earned runs in all of them, including getting smacked around in his previous start against the Astros, allowing seven runs on seven hits while lasting just 2.1 innings! Fade Detmers against the streaking ’Stros.

Astros RF Kyle Tucker Over 1½ Total Bases

Very quietly, the Houston Astros are rebounding from a slow start with a 21-26 record. They have won seven of their last eight and are hosting the Angels for the first of a three-game set at Minute Maid Park. The Astros’ lineup has the lowest strikeout percentage in MLB and the highest batting average (.265). I will be looking to fade Angels starting pitcher Reid Detmers in every way possible tonight.

One guy who has been terrific in 2024 and is posting MVP-caliber numbers is Kyle Tucker. I’m opting to back one of the Astros’ best overall hitters against Detmers. The lefty Tucker has at least two total bases in 10 of his previous 13 games, including a two-homer day on Sunday! He is hitting .315 at home this season and is tied with the sixth-most total bases among all players in their home ballpark.

Tucker has the fourth-most total bases in May. What makes Tucker and his teammate Yordan Alvarez so unique is the lefty hitters are excellent against left-handed pitchers. Tucker is 5-for-16 in his career against Detmers. He has a career .937 OPS against the Angels, which is the second-highest against any opponent he has at least 40 plate appearances against. Count on Tucker to continue to cook against the Halos!
