Best 2 MLB Player Props Today
1. Cardinals SP Sonny Gray Over 6½ Strikeouts (-124)
I’m firing on a strikeout prop with our first MLB bet tonight. I have faded the Pirates all season, which has paid off. The St. Louis Cardinals host the Pirates in the second of a three-game set at Busch Stadium between National League Central rivals. The Cardinals will send 34-year-old righty Sonny Gray to the bump against the Pirates.
On Tuesday night, Pirates phenom Paul Skenes received a standing ovation when he was removed from the game. Even Cardinals fans were up on their feet, showing respect to their opponent’s player. Tonight, I expect Cards fans to be on their feet for one of their own.

Gray has been around for a while, with this being his 12th big league season. He finished as the runner-up for AL Cy Young in 2023 and is off to a strong start in 2024 in his first year in St. Louis. Gray is just outside the current top 10 in NL Cy Young odds, but after today’s start, we can see him enter the mix.
The Cardinals signed Gray to a three-year deal in the offseason since they needed an ace, and he has delivered through the first third of the season. He has thrown the ball exceptionally well in 2024, posting a 7-4 record with a 3.21 ERA and a WHIP at 1.07.
Gray has a 105 Pitching+ this season, tied for sixth-highest in MLB among qualified starting pitchers. He is in the 78th percentile in WHIFF% and 94th percentile in K%. Gray has exceeded six strikeouts in five of his 11 starts. He finished with six Ks in four of those. He’s posted career-high marks in xERA and K-BB% through his first 11 starts with St. Louis. Since his disastrous season with the Yankees in 2018, he has finished above the league average in K/BB ratio.
The Pirates have the fifth-highest K% and third-highest WHIFF% in MLB. Pittsburgh has the fifth-most strikeouts in MLB, behind only the Mariners, Athletics, Red Sox and Rockies. Gray has terrific numbers against Pittsburgh’s projected lineup, with a strikeout percentage of 32% across 72 at-bats. Bank on Gray to fan at least seven Buccos.

2. Marlins SP Braxton Garrett Over 5½ Hits Allowed (-107)
With our second MLB bet tonight, I’m fading Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett in his sixth start of the season. The 26-year-old southpaw has been hit hard in four of five outings, and I expect that trend to continue on the road against the veteran Mets lineup. The Mets have struggled at home in Citi Field but, over the last two weeks, have the second-best batting average in the league (.283).
Garrett allowed five runs on six hits in just 2.2 innings in his last outing against the Rays. He has allowed more than five hits in three of five starts, including his second outing of the season, which came against the Metropolitans. He was smacked around by New York in that start, allowing six runs on seven hits.
The Mets’ record of 28-37 doesn’t reflect their offensive ability. Pitching has been the issue for the club in 2024. The Mets have the 11th-highest batting average against southpaws this season at .255. They have the 7th-highest slugging percentage (.417) and OPS (.745) against lefties. They have tagged five of the last six left-handed starting pitchers for at least 6 hits.
Garrett is struggling, ranking in the bottom fifth percentile in Hard-Hit %. The Mets key guys – Pete Alonso ( 7 for 18, 2 HRs), Francisco Lindor (5 for 16, 3 HRs), and Starling Marte (4 for 7, 2 2Bs) – have outstanding numbers in their careers against Garrett . Marte has the 11th-highest overall batting average against lefties in the bigs (.333). He’s quietly been on fire, batting (.481) over his last eight games, including multi-hit games in six of them!
