With many options for MLB player props today, I’ve meticulously and comprehensively narrowed down the best bets for you, ensuring you’re well-informed and prepared for the games.

2 Best MLB Player Props Friday, 9/13

1. Nationals SP DJ Herz Under 4½ Hits Allowed

On Friday night, the Washington Nationals will look to bounce back from Thursday’s loss against the Miami Marlins. The Nationals are 15 games back in the NL Wild Card race, but they have showcased their youthfulness in the second half. One of those young pieces will be on display tonight.

Washington will send 23-year-old rookie southpaw DJ Herz to the mound. Herz has made 16 starts and has posted respectable numbers. He’s coming off a terrific outing against the Pirates and should have plenty of confidence entering tonight’s matchup. In 16 big league games, he has a 3.82 ERA (3.28 xERA), 1.22 WHIP, and an opponent batting average of .220. He was acquired from the Cubs in the deal that sent Jeimer Candelario to Chicago last season.

Herz gets a great matchup with the Miami Marlins, who have struggled against lefties. Miami is 29th in wRC+ against lefties this season. He started against Miami in June and had his best performance, throwing 6 shutout innings with 13 strikeouts and just 1 hit.

Herz is in the 88th percentile in K %, although he struggles with walking batters. However, that shouldn’t become an issue tonight against Miami, which has the third-lowest BB% in baseball. The Fish are tied with the third-lowest batting average against lefties. Herz has allowed four hits or fewer in seven of his last eight starts. I’m riding with the young lefty with confidence at BetUS Sportsbook.

2. Mets SP Jose Quintana Over 2½ Earned Runs

The Philadelphia Phillies (88-58) will begin a massive three-game series at home with the New York Mets (80-66) and will be up against southpaw Jose Quintana. The 35-year-old left-hander was strong in his last three outings, but two of three starts came against the poor Reds and White Sox lineups. Things won’t be as simple against this terrific Phillies lineup. Quintana, who has struggled with his control and has been giving up a lot of hits, has posted decent numbers against Philadelphia’s projected lineup, but I expect the bats to get to him tonight.

Quintana made two appearances against Philadelphia last season and was smacked around in both outings. He allowed three and five earned runs in those games. He has allowed two and three earned in two starts against Philly this season.

The Phillies own the second-highest batting average against lefties (.276 BA) and have the highest on-base percentage (.351 OBP). The Phils hit the third-most homers against southpaws last season and are tied for third again in 2024. Philadelphia hasn’t slowed down at the plate.

The Mets have scratched and clawed their way this season and currently hold the final Wild Card spot. This series will start a ten-game stretch where the Mets and Phillies will play each other in seven of them. Philadelphia has an 8-game lead in the NL East over New York. This should be an exciting series with a playoff atmosphere at Citizens Bank. Philadelphia mashes at home.

Quintana has struggled with his control (33rd percentile in BB %), and I expect the Phillies to get on base (4th-highest BB% vs. LH). Quintana ranks in the 23rd percentile in xERA (4.64) and 24th in xBA (.260). The Phillies lead the league in wRC+ against southpaws. Over the previous two weeks, Bryce Harper (.391), Brandon Marsh (.324), and Kyle Schwarber (.349, 7 HRs) have been on a tear! Trea Turner is hitting .328 against left-handed pitchers, and J.T. Realmuto is set to return to the lineup. Fade Quintana tonight.
