Top 3 Best MLB Player Props Friday 9/6
1. Red Sox SP Nick Pivetta 7+ Strikeouts
We backed Nick Pivetta a ton in 2024, and I’m on board with trusting the 31-year-old right-hander again tonight. The Boston Red Sox hurler moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation one year ago last July. At the end of July, he had three consecutive shaky outings, so Boston decided to skip a start and give him extra rest. Since then, he’s performed better, but his strikeout numbers haven’t climbed to what we were growing accustomed to seeing. However, two of his last three starts were against very good Oriole and Astro teams.

Pivetta has made 21 starts this season and has a 4.53 ERA (3.71 xERA) and a 1.13 WHIP. He has finished with at least 6 Ks in 12 outings. He has a 134 Stuff+, the highest in MLB among starting pitchers, and a 108 Pitching+ rating, tied for second-best in bigs among starters.
Since moving to the starting rotation last summer, he ranks fourth in the league in strikeout rate among starters. His pitch arsenal of velocity and movement is comparable to that of Trevor Bauer and Justin Verlander in the 2018 season, where each was a finalist in AL Cy Young voting! I love the price we’re getting here on Pivetta in an excellent spot to bounce back tonight against the White Sox.
Chicago has the ninth-highest K% in the league and the second-lowest batting average (.220). Since the break, the White Sox have had the fourth-lowest batting average, hitting just .221. Like many strikeout pitchers, Pivetta struggles with the long ball, but that shouldn’t bite him too hard against Chicago, which has hit the fewest home runs in the league in 2024.
He has a 32.7% K% at Fenway versus 26.8% on the road. I expect Pivetta to punch out at least seven White Sox today. Include him in your MLB player prop bets tonight.

Bet on Nick Pivetta to Get 7+ Strikeouts (+106)
2. Twins SP Zebby Matthews Over 5½ Hits Allowed
We will fade an exciting young arm with our next MLB bet tonight. The Minnesota Twins 24-year-old rookie right-hander Zebby Matthews will be making his fifth MLB start. He was terrific in his debut against the Royals at home, throwing five innings and allowing five hits and two runs. What I like most about Matthews is his elite command of his dynamic arsenal.
Matthews draws the Royals again, this time on the road. Kansas City’s lineup will attack him early in counts, and he doesn’t have elite swing-and-miss stuff yet. His four-seam fastball sits around 95 mph. We will back one of the hottest lineups in baseball, spearheaded by Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. is the first player in @Royals franchise history to hit 30 home runs in consecutive seasons! 💪 pic.twitter.com/3HQOum2fBa

Since the break, the Royals have had one of the best offenses in the league, with a .268 batting average and a 109 wRC+. Witt Jr. has been tremendous and arguably the only hitter in the league as good as Aaron Judge this season. His teammate Vinnie Pasquantino (97 RBIs) has recently been placed on the IL but I still like the Royals to damage. Zebby has a bright future in the bigs, but I have to fade the rookie against this lineup on the road!

3. Diamondbacks SP Brandon Pfaadt 6+ Hits Allowed
The Astros have the best record in MLB since April 24th pic.twitter.com/wjvRUdSNQC
— Talkin’ Baseball (@TalkinBaseball_) September 2, 2024
The Houston Astros have respected our money all season long. Houston was one of the hottest teams in the league and was shockingly swept by the Reds earlier this week. The Astros hit the reset button yesterday and will have Framber Valdez on the mound. I expect many MLB bettors to back the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been terrific against lefties this season. Still, I’m opting to trust the Stros’ in the series opener, and I expect them to continue to swing the bats well on Friday when they face right-hander Brandon Pfaadt.
Yordan Alvarez continues to hit the cover off the ball, and he will likely stay hot against Pfaadt, who has struggled more against lefties in his career.
Houston owns the third-highest batting average in the league (.260). The 25-year-old righty has posted respectable numbers in 2024, but his underlying metrics suggest he should fall off a bit down the stretch.
Kyle Tucker could return to the Astros lineup shortly 👀

Pfaadf is in the 44th percentile in xBA. He has allowed at least 7 hits in 6 of his last 7 starts! Houston has posted at least six hits against 12 of the last 20 opposing starting pitchers. The Astros are also expected to get Kyle Tucker back in the lineup tonight. Looking for a good MLB prediction? Trust Houston to stay hot.
Bet on Brandon Pfaadt 6+ Hits Allowed (-114)
